Mike Miller is a terrible contract, he hasn't been a good player in a long time, he's been living off that rookie of the year for a long time, at this point he's Jason Kapono, except he doesn't shoot well anymore and makes twice the money. So the trade is essentially Foye for Rubio. You make valid points on Foye, maybe they did give up on him too early, maybe they didn't get enough in return for Foye. But I keep hearing people say, oh they could have done better with Foye and Miller, can someone give me a deal they could have made with Foye and Miller?
Exactly - not enough people are talking about those bad contracts. Wasn't it 13 mill in bad contracts although they saved face with some other trades afterwards that brought it down to 8mil. Still, they got hosed before they even had a chance to screw up the Rubio pick.
I guess its much more difficult to do this when you're picking in the middle of the lottery like Minny was, but it just goes to show how invaluable CD's trips to China were when we drafted Yao. When there is a great amount of red tape to drafting an international player you have to send your GM out there to at least feel it out. The same thing with Yi and Herb Kohl a couple of years back. Drafting someone like that without extensive discussions with the player, players agent, home team and national team is just asking for trouble. You don't wanna pass up on great talent, but you have to have a serious understanding of how you're going to bring the player over. Minny took the risk and while it hasn't necessarily blown up in their face (taking Flynn was obviously an insurance policy), they are paying the price.
Don't want. I've never understood the infatuation with Rubio -- he's frail and doesn't have a consistent jumper to keep the D honest. He has a high basketball IQ and can dish the rock, and that's about it. I'll take Brooks' tool set any day of the week. Rubio doesn't have the natural athleticism or strength to handle NBA PGs. He's been playing overseas his entire career, and he's going to be overwhelmed by the talent in the league. Yes, I know, he played well in the Olympics, but that doesn't compare to consistently having to match up with D Will, CP3, Parker, Billups, and Rose during an 82 game season. He's going to flop hard during his first 2-3 years, and then develop in to a steady hand at the point, but he'll never be the elite PG that a number of people, including the Wolves' GM, envisioned.
The more Jonny Flynn establishes himself as the franchise player, the more Kahn is going to bad mouth Rubio. He knows the bad press won't devalue Rubio's trade value, but it'll win him PR points with his hometown. http://blogs2.startribune.com/blogs...s-wolves-to-95-93-comeback-victory-over-nets/
Well maybe how about a trade which didn't include garbage contracts? You keep hearing people say that because it is true. Would you trade Foye and Miller (both assets) for 18 million worth of non-expiring garbage contracts and a player who will only start playing for you two years from now? Kahn could have traded foye and miller for Henderson and Gortat, and that's a much better trade than this.
If the T-Wolves are looking on the way to the playoffs by Dec and McGrady is looking like he's back... Maybe Morey will re-offer him again for Rubio's rights?
Well what would they have to throw in to make the contracts work? They should throw in Al..... Just sayin...
It was supposedly McGrady for Rubio's rights + Minny's junk contracts. T-Wolves have ditched all their multi-year junk contracts. McGrady for Rubio's right + Cardinal (expiring) + Blount (expiring) + Gomes Numbers work for above but it's a two-year wait. Maybe a 3-way trade involving Indiana? Dunleavy + Foster have contracts that expire the same year as Yao's. This way Rockets can stay competitive while they wait for Rubio. Doc Rocket did say something about sending McGrady to somewhere where it's cold
You must have read my mind. Flynn is the guy for the T-Wolves. Rubio made the right decision staying home because he would have been embarrassed by Flynn this season.
Flynn's the undersized, gritty scoring guard out of NY with the heart of a lion, and Rubio's the soft teenage kid who's shown vision and handles in a second-rate league in Spain. Take your pick... This should help: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/pHY4vduNoRo&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/pHY4vduNoRo&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
By the way, Flynn led the T-Wolves with 18 points, including 13 in the 4th quarter, in a come from behind W over the Nets last night. Not too shabby for a professional debut...
What are you talking about Mike Miller living off his rookie of the year. Wasn't he sixth man of the year in 2006? Sure he sucks the last 2 years, but to say he was only good in his rookie year is ridiculous.
Rockets waive Dorsey or Mensah-Bonsu Houston: Dunleavy, Foster, Wilkins (expiring), rights to Rubio Indiana: Blount, Cardinal, Pecherov (all 3 expiring) Minnesota: McGrady, Hansbrough, Taylor (via min exceptn), rights to Eliyahu, $3M from Rockets *Pacers dump future salary, stay under LT this year *T-Wolves get McGrady for a playoff push and 3 young assets *Rockets get under LT, short term vet pieces to compete next season, future piece in Rubio <table class="reference" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="1" width="65%"><tr><td>Brooks, Lowry Dunleavy, Budinger Battier, Ariza, Wilkins Scola, Landry, Hayes, Dorsey/Mensah-Bonsu Foster, Andersen, Blount, Yao <td>Flynn, Sessions, Hart Ellington, Brewer, Taylor McGrady, Pavlovic, Gomes Love, Hansbrough Jefferson, Hollins, Jawai <td>Ford, Watson, Diener, Price Rush, Head Granger, D.Jones, Cardinal Murphy, McRoberts, Pecherov Hibbert, S.Jones, Blount</tr></td></table> Alternatively... T-Wolves waive Hart's non-guaranteed contract Houston: Dunleavy, Foster, Blount (expiring), rights to Rubio Indiana: McGrady, Jawai Minnesota: Hansbrough, Watson, Taylor, rights to Eliyahu, rights to Lishouk (+ Cook + $3M) *Pacers dump future salary. *T-Wolves save $2,583,215 and acquire 4 young assets. *Rockets could possibly package Cook to Minnesota and give max cash considerations to fully cover his salary. A guesstimate of Cook's pro-rated contract on Nov 23rd is around $2.9M. *If Barry was bought out for $1,112,437 less than what he was owed Rockets would be under the LT. <table class="reference" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" border="1" width="65%"><tr><td>Brooks, Lowry Dunleavy, Budinger Battier, Ariza Scola, Landry, Hayes, Dorsey, Mensah-Bonsu Foster, Andersen, Blount, Yao<td>Flynn, Sessions, Watson Ellington, Brewer, Taylor Wilkins, Pavlovic, Gomes Love, Hansbrough, Cardinal Jefferson, Hollins, Pecherov<td>Ford, Diener, Price Rush, Head McGrady, D.Jones Granger, Murphy, McRoberts Hibbert, S.Jones, Jawai </tr></td></table>
I like the 2nd trade. In Adelman's offense Dunleavy can be a very good player: nice bball iq, good shot, good court vision. Foster and Blount can give us more big man depth. However we'd be getting 3 guys and only sending out two, Pops would have to be cut. At any rate, this is probably a trade I'd only at the trade deadline. There might be better offers by then, or who knows, Tmac might actually be back....
Why do so many people want Rubio? I watch this guy play in the Euroleague all the time. He's incredibly overrated. There are NUMEROUS point guards in the Euroleague that are far better than him. He will never be half as good as Spanoulis is and I am dead serious. Rubio is an entire creation of NBA and Spanish League HYPE.
