So how do you help a team win 22 straight games without trusting your teammates? That seems extremely hard to do.
man, dd, you're so annoying. it's really hard to put you not on ignore sometimes. i wonder if the cavs would like to take the ball out of lebron's hands too to have him moving around screens and letting delonte west run the team... and for the record, no, i'm not comparing an injured mcgrady to the best player in the league.
I kinda agree with that, but it is not ONLY about the streak. T-Mac is known as one of the most unselfish stars in the NBA. Really. Just ask guys. Ask Shane Battier if he like playing with McGrady. Hell, ask even Chuck Hayes if he likes playing with him. Ask Scola... McGrady is a willing passer and DD I am sorry but you make him look like the most selfish star in the NBA... It is not the truth.
Then explain yourself, because that is exactly what you just did. Not sure what is so hard to understand GRF, Tmac has been selfish, lazy, and tossed the organization under the bus. I want him gone.....and I believe the team is better off without him. DD
"It's on me" "I imposed my will on the game" "We didn't play hard" You see the difference in those quotes? If you understand human nature, then you would understand what I am saying. DD
DD, you are an idealist. If you think getting rid of Tmac will solve everything, you will be certainly disappionted. Life is not that simple!
No, ABC, it will not solve everything, but it is an important first step. I don't expect a championship this year, but if the team grows and gets further into the playoffs then uses his bloated contract to acquire a couple of good players next year, then BAM we have something. For me it is all about the team, nothing more, players are assets.....to help the team. And asking people to look at it as a leader of an organization, or in team building is difficult because most here on these boards do not have the life experience of leading a team or a group of people anywhere in anything. It is a can't see the forest through the trees perspective. DD
LOL you have a habit of quoting yourself, don't you? I guess you are both you and sam fisher's favorite poster in the forum
This, too, is a good post, but that's only if you consider that everyone hates McGrady like you assume. I think if we rewound time back to March of 2008, everyone would be singing a different tune, even the guys on the team.
He is a very willing passer, but unfortunately that isn't all he is supposed to do. He is lazy on the court. He has no problem making the pass he is supposed to make, but without the ball in his hands he doesn't work at all on the offensive side of the court. He just kind of stands around.
Tracy has been labeled many things in his career. From questionable work ethic, too nice, too laid back, too soft, and too injury prone. But I never heard him labeled as a selfish player, until this season. One of his "Pros" was that he is a very unselfish player. I guess in a matter of months, he decided that being unselfish was not working and started being selfish.
You know what, as crazy as that sounds, I agree. We are a better team even without a HEALTHY Mcgrady. I think Tracy's biggest gift was also his biggest curse. He was so good at creating for himself and for others, that that became the only way he could play. He either had to be the one shooting, or the one getting someone the shot. When put in a TEAM setting, he became ineffective because creating was all he was used to. This is typified by his "It's On Me!" mentality. Putting such a burden on ones self not only crushes the individual, it lets the opponent off the hook. It is much easier to key in on an individual taking it upon himself than to defend a TEAM. If the individual is talented enough, he can carry the team to a winning season. He can even win a few games in the playoffs. But in a 7 game series against a good team, they will key in on him and wear him out. This is why Tracy "choked" against Detroit, and why he has not advanced in Houston. Kobe was the same way when Shaq left. The Lakers did not become a great team until Kobe bought into the TEAM. Maybe one day Tracy can buy into the team concept and not take it all upon himself. Unfortunately it won't be with us. The Rockets are a less talented team without a healthy Mcgrady, obviously. But they are a better TEAM.
Being a willing passer is different than trusting your teamates to make decisions. It is hard to explain to people the difference between passing to your teamates as a way to get them a shot, and passing to your teamates so they can create the shot. It is an entirely different level of trust.....and it is winning basketball 101. DD
He wont be, but his team will. You know its going to get really old hearing all of the debating about that into next season...
That is EXACTLY what I am saying. Buying into the team concept and trusting them to make decisions with the ball, it makes it impossible to game plan for or against because team's do not know who is going to shoot or have the ball on each possesion. Winning basketball 101. Agree, which is why I hope the team trades his contract over the summer. DD
