I'd be curious to know how many pts Howard gets per game on shots of his own creation, meaning he goes one on one and scores as opposed to offensive rebounds with put back dunks, etc. He's always seemed terribly limited on offense, but he is quite young of course.

Hahahaha. Unbelievable. I cant get myself to watch sportscenter anymore. Its just bad reporting.

I remember watching the GS game that JVG called, and at the end of the game, Wafer dunked in a putback over like 3 guys...It was a totally meaningless play and the game was decided a long time before that. JVG said with sarcasm/fake excitement, "THATS GONNA BE ON SPORTSCENTER NEXT."

The sad thing is there were people in his ear probably telling him to say that.

Hes pretty limited against Yao in the post, but he can score over most guys down there. Not many people can post up Yao. Shaq may be the only one to do it with success..Duncan can too.

That's the thing about Dwight. Once he progresses to the point where he develops a hook or a short J (And can shoot at least 65-75% FT's) He will be by far the best Center in the league. But to say hands down he is the best at this point of his career is just not true. In a 7 game series It's Yao, to start a franchise, Dwight.

I wonder if they'll ever do a vote with the NBA Centers to see who is the actual best center in the league

Duncan is the best C in basketball I think. I dont know why he is held out of these discussions.

IMO Yao is better now and probably will be better for a while. Though Yao is better, he has some obvious inherent weaknesses (is just about not being not athletic, he just does not have quick reactions).

Dwight Howard is great, and I have to say that if I were to start a team today, I would take him over Yao. However, I don't like it when people start to compare Howard to the all-time great centers. Dwight will never be the offensive players that Wilt and Dream and Shaq were. Hence he will never be as dominant in the game as those all-time great centers were. You can develop and learn on offense, but some of those offensive talents are just natural. You either have them or don't.

67%, probably not, but a lot, and still be a playoff team, sure.

People like to focus on the "Big 3" concept. The obvious in Boston. The Lakers Big 3 (or 4).

How easy it is to overlook Orlando's Big 3...who are actually outperforming our Big 3 at the moment (regardless of how you view the Dwight v. Yao matchup). Not to mention they're healthy. Not to mention Jameer Nelson has almost become they're big 4. Dwight has definitely improved over the years, but he actually hasn't improved as much as Hedo and Jameer have, or helped the Magic as much as adding Rashard (though overpaid) as a FA has.

i don't think anyone is arguing Dwight isn't a good rebounder, probably still the best in the league...just that you have to look at every situation uniquely. Dwight Howard being a dominating rebounder on a team that is outrebounded and is playing Rashard Lewis as the starting PF is different than Charles Barkley averaging 13.5 boards a game his first year with the Rockets, when Hakeem also averaged over 9, Kevin Willis over 7, Clyde over 6...so that I explain by Charles also being a truly dominating rebounder...which he was.

hey, i'm not taking away anything from Dwight. I even said I'd start my team with him if I ahd to choose a center, over Yao.

But, being a Houstonian, posting on a Rockets message board, of course a majority of Rockets fans would think yao is far and away the best. But even conceding that it isn't so obvious, what is clear is that it is a toss-up at best, and in my opinion, from a logical non-biased perspective, slight edge to Yao.

    Sportsnation voters are idiots

    Sportsnation voters are idiots

    http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/dailydime?page=dime

    Dwight is 80%
    Yao is 20%

For the best center in the NBA, what a joke. Luckily it's only Sportsnation and not the official or Analysts and GM's votes.

    Sorry to burst your bubble:

    [rquoter]
Who is the best center in the NBA?
    1. Dwight Howard -- 55.6%
    2. Yao Ming -- 25.9%
    3. Tim Duncan -- 18.5%[/rquoter]

    2008 GM Survey

And this was before the season -- Howard has gotten measurably better since last year ... while Yao is basically the same player.

If that is based on future gains, then its accurate. If its based on who is the best right now. If you wanted to build a team to play one game tomorrow who would you take? I'm taking the great wall.

The fact that every time the two play each other Yao schools Howard make this a non discussion
