I would love to add Cassell to the Rockets....he would be excellent help to our young guards.

First, thanks for the insult. No, you didn't direct it specifically at me or anyone else, but it's clearly aimed at everyone who disagrees with your opinion (that the Celtics aren't all that great).

Second, no. It doesn't sound like that at all. In fact, it's not even comparable. Those were preseason predictions. It was wild speculation largely based on our collective homerism and tendency towards optimism for our Rockets.

This, on the other hand, is us speculating on how an addition would help a team we have no vested interest in. Further, we have roughly 40 games to base our predictions on. The Celtics have dominated up to this point with no back up point guard. How could adding a quality back up PG like Cassell or Stoudamire not help them? Unlike the Rockets, the Celtics have already PROVEN to be among the NBA elite. No, they haven't faced a seven game series with the Western Elite yet, but it sure is looking like they'll face that before the season is over.

Finally, you tell us we're clueless then offer absolutely nothing but a weak and inaccurate comparison and your completely unsupported personal opinion. If we truly are clueless, I'd appreciate it if you would clue us in by offering a little more of your reasoning, and perhaps, if it's not too much to ask, some supporting evidence to back your opinion. I'd surely enjoy a deeper look into your flawless insight. It may just put me closer to finding a clue.

I really think that the Celtics are overrated. They would get trashed by any good west teams (suns, spurs, mavs, hornets, last years rockets)

As bad as this team looks I don't think Sam could give nearly enough help. Maybe the Sam Cassell that could play 30+ minutes a game EVERY game but I just don't see him being able to get us over the hump by any stretch of the imagination in his elderly state.

Boston is another story, however. They have to beat the Pistons and they are in the Finals. Sam could be a huge help to them if he can just play 12-14 minutes a night to stay in shape and sharp and then increase his role in the playoffs.

So would I but if he is looking for another ring before he retires then he is much better off in Boston.

Of the teams you mentioned the true overrated team is the suns in my opinion. They will surely go down the toliet in the post season as usual.

Mike Monroe: Stoudamire a Spur soon?

It can't happen until early Wednesday evening, when Damon Stoudamire clears waivers, but it now appears likely the Spurs will sign the 5-foot-10 point guard who on Monday finalized terms of a buyout of his contract with the Memphis Grizzlies.

Stoudamire had expressed interest in signing with both the Spurs and the Boston Celtics, but seems to have settled on San Antonio as his destination of choice.

Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, who doubles as the team's vice-president of basketball operations, can't speak about Stoudamire until he clears waivers tomorrow night. He did, however, express a high degree of interest before Monday night's game against the Utah Jazz in whether or not Stoudamire had officially gotten out of his deal in Memphis.

The Spurs, in need of additional scoring, also are acutely aware of the frailty of their point guard situation because of the injury that has bothered Tony Parker for nearly two months. Parker's explosiveness has been limited because of a bone spur in his left heel.

Stoudamire averaged 7.3 points in 29 games with the Grizzlies this season, but shot only 39.7 percent, and 38.7 percent from 3-point range. He has been in the league since 1995 and has a career scoring average of 13.8.
