Griner would get absolutely destroyed in the NBA. She might be able to play in the d-league, and she would probably be one of the worse players even in the d-league.
Is she transgender? Born a male but changes their sex during child hood? Anyway give her a chance and see what happen. I'm sure she'll be able to hold her own against some players.
Shane Battier trolling lol Miami Heat forward Shane Battier, who has played several pickup basketball games with women over the years, predicts that the NBA is not far away from having its first female player.
In all seriousness, there already is a female LeBron as far as a physical specimen goes... imagine if she had a baby with LeBron... that baby would come out with a 12 pack and 40 inch vertical...
Griner would make that team tougher. They would finally have a true center on that team, which isn't saying much
I don't think there could be a female big. I could see a female guard though, I hope it doesn't happen since I think there should fully be a women's and men's NBA. It should be kept separate.
She would get schooled by any high school boys' varsity players 6'4" or taller and I'm being really generous to her with that statement.
Pelton has a good article comparing her measurables to other male basketball players. She has the size of a lanky, rangy NBA wing player. Above average for a SF, undersized for a PF. She's only 210 pounds, and would probably have to considerably increase her core strength to compete against men. Her lack of a vertical (by male standards) would greatly limit her ability to finish around the rim. And she wasn't a great rebounder even against the competition where she had a considerable advantage physically. If she's to make it, she'd have to greatly improve her basketball IQ and ability to play away from the basket. At the very least, she'd need several years of pro experience against women before taking up the challenge of trying to play against male professionals.
