For those of you that happen to be delusional and believe that Mike James is better than Nick Van Exel. Do those of us with some sanity of course :p a favor and poll the entire NBA. Which would they rather have: Mike James or Nick Van Exel at his current state. I can guarantee you that just about all of them would select Nick Van Exel in a heartbeat.

Alright, we all know you hate James, but at least for clarity, EXPLAIN HOW in the world you think Van Exel is better than James or the other way around.

Whenever I saw James play, it was like a spark off the bench; he drives to the hole wildly (EXTREMELY FAST) and throws up a DAMN NICE floater. Mike James is HUSTLE. Maybe I just blocked out mistakes that he made, but I see him as a guy with a great role on the team. His speed is needed; at least he is being used in that manner as opposed to a guy like Adrian Griffin who couldn't do a thing but out run a guy.

James is an asset behind Sura (and Wesley).

In my opinion, with the limited number of underwhelming guards out there (Anderson, Van Exel), why try to get another guy when this team's got GREAT chemistry with Sura, James, and Wesley.

Keep them, get rid of Mooch and Ward if need be...toss up on Head.

    I'd rather have Gary Payton.

I think,as much energy as NVE puts out on the offensive end,James probably comes as hard on defense. They are different players, and at this point in their careers(and for skillset and trade value),I'll take James.

When it comes to some players fans don't personally like, such fans posts come out of their butts instead of their brains. Good examples above.

As said before I'd still take NVE for a 1 year minimum deal. Low risk, some potential payoff. Just cut Ward, and let Head and NVE compete for the 3rd PG/3rd SG minutes. And if one of the 4 main guards get injured, you have an experienced guy who can make shots (even if he can't play defense).

i gotta tell ya...i disagree...in less minutes, james averaged more ppg than van exel and shot considerably better than him from the field. at this stage of their careers, i'd take mike james.

Sorry Max, it will be of no use to use logic, reason or evidence on this argument.

If NVE or DS or or or is signed then who goes, and for whom or what? Or does Sura move full time to the 2?

even if Sura does move we still will need to cut someone
    1. Yao
    2. T-Mac
    3. Swift
    4. Sura
    5. Wesly
    6. J Ho
    7. James
    8. Weatherspoon
    9. Moochie
    10. Head
    11. Baker
    12. Ward
    13. Bowen is as good as signed if not already
    14. Barry is as good as signed
    15. Deke is as good as signed

so someone must go. Who ?
I hope someone of the least importance ie. trade for expiring contracts

I'm starting to think that the importance of Van Exel's defensive ability is a bit overrated...I mean, with the frontline that Houston is going to be able to throw at people, we don't need Van Exel to be a stopper--and, indeed, with 1.8 mil to spend, we can't afford a guy who is also a strong point guard as well as a defensive stopper. Just make sure the guy doesn't gamble too much on defense and let our frontline of Swift, Yao, Mutumbo, etc. do their job.

I'm all for Van Exel if we can land him for that price.

I think they have already cut him and he has agreed to terms with L.A. Lakers.

Glad to know Head is a washed up old fart.

The only problem with some of our recent signings (e.g., Ward) is they were way more than the vet minimum and for multiple years.

For the vet min I'll take someone like NVE over Barrett (young but sucky), Ward (old but less game), Rod Strickland (old but no game), or probably any other possibility at the vet min.

I might consider a 1 year LLE (1.6 mil), but I probably only offer NVE the vet min for his tenure (like 1.1 mil). Why give up the LLE exemption for 2 years and the lux tax just for the extra 500K, doesn't make sense? It would be better to do a 2 year vet min deal (like 2.3 mil) than any part of a deal with the LLE.

If NVE comes here it is for the vet min, why not. For a 1 year vet min, it could hardly be bad for the Rockets. If NVE insists on 2 years (player option on year 2), still probably worth it. But that is it, no LLE. The vet min is the best we can do in this situation, and it might be enough.

1st choice DS pursue SnT until he signs with the Griz.
2nd choice DA. Bigger and has more left in the tank than NVE
3rd choice NVE. He can run the point but the backcourt will still be run by comittee with James and Sura.

If the Rockets just signed Nick Van Exel (and cut Charlie Ward), they would have a pretty deep 12 man roster.

    **************
    Tracy Mcgrady
    Yao Ming
    Stromile Swift
    David Wesley
    Bobby Sura
    Nick Van Exel
    Mike James
    Dikembe Mutombo
    Jon Barry
    Luther Head
    Juwan Howard
    Ryan Bowen
    **************

What other team would have a better roster 1 - 12? I dont know, but I guess the problem would be minutes for the guards and thats why someone would have to be traded.
