I think this kid wasn't raised right. The problem is JVG doesn't look like a father figure so he couldn't help him...neither does Ewing..so he's screwed

I present to you Bartman Jones or whatever his name is. He basically called me an alarmist  :(

I sensed anger in JVG's voice on SportsRadio610 but he interestingly said that he is CONFIDENT Mr. Griffin will beat/overcome this.

I wish Eddie all the best.

What if someone on the team who had been playing well in the preseason had done this? Would everyone be as harsh as they seem to be w/Eddie? (Is anyone playing well in the preseason, I suppose is another question)

You know, maybe he caught something....private.

I bet if you caught a bad case of a venereal disease you might flip out, esp if it was something permanent like HPV or HSV. Thats warts or herpes for those of you who werent forced to take Health in school.

JVG wants him back, they claim its personal, I'd still give him the benefit of the doubt and trust the coach.

Does this mean that Bostjan Nachbar is now our first round draft pick for 2001, also?

OMG! Thank you for that! I know it's the wrong forum, but I've just got to say that I'm getting sick of seeing the back of his jersey on EVERY highlight reel for opposing QBs (read: Steve McNair.)

On topic, EG's trade value just disappeared and we have NO PF to play the rest of preseason. I guess we'll see Cato's abilities at the 4 tested a bit more until MoT gets better.

I will gladly dissagree with you. Have you ever heard the saying that one's reputation precedes him (I hope I did not blow that saying)? The unfortunate why the word/term HISTORY is to help us appreciate our past and where we came from, and also to help us not make the same mistakes. That alone coupled with Eddie's pending drug/DUI charge only lends a quasi explanation to this bizzare behavior Eddie is exhibiting. Don't tell me that drugs has not crossed your mind in this regard in the last 2 days. If your answer is no then you are either a liar and a hypocrite or you just not telling yourself the truth.

it's pretty shocking considering he worked hard in the preseason games i watched. and it's sad considering he did it once, twice and now three times. i just hope that JVG does the right thing (and so far it looks like he has).

For the ones that are still dream of rashard or RJ:

get over it. it's over and done with. why don't y'all go ever further and dream about having jordan also. you can't expect to make the present better and dream of brighter futures by always going into the past and saying 'aw shucks we could have had him instead'. that's TOO much hindsight bias. the MAJORITY of us expected great things out of Eddie because he was a PROSPECT and not a 100% ready product. the sky was the limit. no one knew that this would happen 3 years ago.

For the ones that want to trade EG:

like some have said: it's not going to happen. at least i hope it won't happen considering the fact that EG's value is at it's lowest right now. and yes, IF he ever comes back, the rockets REALLY DO need him. i really don't think EG's agent is forcing a trade b/c really, why would they do that? b/c honestly, the rockets will probably the only team that would want to pay him a high salary. and even IF his agent is trying to force the hand, so what. let it be. after 82 games (more if we're lucky), we'll see what they can get from the FA market.

I think it's pretty ridiculous how everybody has to toss their mar1juana references and accusations out there. Even Charlie Palilo tossed on in earlier "Put it down and go to practice Eddie". Nobody knows that this has ANYTHING to do with that.

The guy made a mistake and got busted once - but he'll be known as a pothead for the rest of his life now. Some people have not mentioned his name ONCE since that day without tossing in some sort of pot reference

and like I said - it's pretty ridiculous - get OVER IT!!! get over the pot reference thing

    people are such hypocrites

what is it you're accusing him of exactly? Are you thinking he didn't show because he wanted to stay home and get high? Not likely. I think he screwed up - but I seriously doubt this was pot related.

    maybe i'll be proved wrong

    This is an OUTRAGE.

Maybe now we'll only win 40 games instead of 45???

We need new players. Keep Yao, & ship the rest OUT via 3rd class mail.

Are we taking it for granted that Eddie Griffin is worth the contract extension? Has he really played up to the value?

[1] How much is it for?

[2] How much could Eddie reasonably get in the market in another contract?

    [1] Around 3 Million.
    [2] Almost definitely more.

But the Rox could probably put that $3 Mill to a better purpose. I'm sure there's gonna be some FA PF's around next year that are as good or better than Eddie. So if he doesn't start acting right, he is definitely expendable.

Not that I'm not pulling for him to rebound here, but it's not a *huge* hurdle for the Rox.

    hi Everybody!

theSAGE is back! for another wonderful season with the Rockets.

Sadly, EG doesn't seem to be on the same page as the rest of us. I honestly think the problems with EG are not one's of talent or skill, but rather, simple maturity. Perhaps its too much success and too much $$$ too soon, but EG has had this bad pattern of showcasing his total lack of professionalism when it comes to being a professional athlete.

Personally, I think, of all the Rox, EG is the most likely to be dangled as trade bait. He's young, he's still got the "potential" veneer (though I personally don't believe that argument anymore), and his contract is relatively digestable by other teams. Moreover, I'm still of the camp that this team needs a hardnosed 4 to supplement Yao. Van Gundy is very familiar with working with strong 4s and I doubt he'll have the patience to work with an incalcitrant EG when there are strong 4s in the market.

One are where VanGundy will not be compromised is discipline. Perhaps one of his biggest challenges is instilling or rather enforcing such precepts on a young team. Historically, VanGundy has had some pretty solid veterans to work with. But here, in Houston, I can already foresee some potential conflicts with EG, Francis, and perhaps to a lesser extent, MoT. If EG's lack of discipline continues to occur, I see VanGundy making a move before February for our playoff push.

    :D
