If it's true, there's not one person here who can say playing a preseason is more important than protecting their children's safety.
Maybe he can try to gain legal custody of the child and then be able to concentrate more easily on bball...
I don't know about the laws in the state where the girlfriend lives (Pennsylvania, right?), but it is very hard to get a judge to give custody to anyone other than the mother. Added to the fact that EG is a professional basketball player who is out of town regularly 8-9 months out of the year and the chances of EG getting custody are somewhere between slim and none.
this certainly puts a new perspective on the situation. My kids always come first, I would expect no less from anyone else. If this is true then I hope Eddie takes all the time he needs.
I just hope EG doesn't decide to cut off his nose to spite his face by quitting bball so that the golddigger won't be able to extort him.
Stab, assuming your post is accurate, that explains a lot. The great bulk of the board is in his corner. Getting custody of an infant would be tough, though, unless the mother has serious blunders in her background.
He makes enough money. Hire an expensive lawyer -- put him to work and get back to playing basketball. You are right the daughter should come first but the best thing for her long-term is Eddie playing ball and bringing in the bucks.
I just hope that the mother knows what EG is doing. She needs to realize that if she keeps this up, she will be SOL.
So the rumors about EG hanging out with thugs is pretty much true. He's been getting himself mixed up with the wrong crowd for awhile now. Best thing for him would be to go home to Philly for awhile, forget hoops, and get his life back together. Say what you want, but this guy was worth the risk of 3 first rounders. This BBS exploded after the trade was made, thinking we got a franchise player. Yes, Griffin has fizzled, but there's nothing wrong with taking the chance on a home run. Wouldn't surprise me in the least if EG has played his last game as Rocket. Van Gundy probably doesn't want him around anymore.
If this was all about the safety/well being of Eddie's daughter, then why would JVG and CD say that it was not an excuse? Seems as if weapons + baby = good excuse. So, I won't put too much weight behind that story.
I think it has more to do with Eddie not requesting a formal leave of absence, and instead going AWOL. But who knows?
Because the team motto is "no excuses," maybe? This isn't cancer. Eddie can resolve this without forsaking his responsibilities to the team. That is why JVG is understandable and sympathetic but still sticks to his "no excuses" mantra. If this is true, Eddie needs to not try to handle this himself and let his money talk through a high-powered attorney and get custody of the child. No amount of door knocking, posse, weapons, "gifts" to the gold digger or pleading with the child's mother will resolve this situation. EG needs to send it to court and get his ass back to work.
didnt anyone ever tell griffin that women are evil? He should have only dated/sex with girls that live in very rich neighborhoods, and he shouldnt have put out until he met all the parents/friends/brothers of the girl. I feel for Eddie in this situation, and hope he gets custody. But you have to admit,he really screwed up on this one and you cant blame youth. He also lived with his mother when he first came here didnt he? I take these beliefs even if your poor(so you dont have to pay child support guys) but man if your rich like Eddie you should have been warned of gold diggers by your agent/mom/friends/brother/common sense. Basically this is the only problem with being rich guys,is that you cant tell when a girl really likes you,or is just after your money. 99.9999999999 % of the time its after the money. What Eddie (and all guys for that matter) should have done is not give her any high priced gifts. giving her that escalade was his first mistake. If you want to test a girl to see if shes after your money, you dont buy her cars and gods knows what else.Girls are very good manipulators and so rule #1,do your research on a girl before having sex. Its not that hard. Dont be like Shawn kemp.
I agree completely with that statement. Sometimes you just have to take risks in order to get to the top. Some work and some don't. Eddie is still very young and still talented. Maybe he will get it together at some point for the Rockets or some other team but he is way to young to just completely give up on. It takes talent to do what he did as a freshman in college and then again as a 19 year old rookie.
along the lines of what Baqui and Crash are saying... If only one of Ming or Eddie was going to live up to or exceed expectations, I think we'd vote for Ming. And that may well start happening. The more I hear about Eddie, the worse I feel for him, in the same way I feel bad for the guests on the Springer show. Sadly, if all this about his kid is true, the best way for him to obtain custody is show that he is a competant working professional who will bring in $$ and establish a stable home for years to come.
I think that is why rookies have to go through the Rookie Transition Program, Eddie was probably stoned when he went, I would have. It sucks that Eddie's life is in a mess right now, drugs-bad crowds-custody battles, no wonder he wants some time off. Hopefully he will get his stuff straight and play some b-ball.
You know, whatever crap Eddie is experiencing, I hope it gets better for him. If he loses his job and millions, it's unfortunate, buts that's the way things work. The more money, the more responsibility to you employer. You're geting millions out of someone's pocket(s) to show up for work, you need to atleast call and keep employers informed, ask for personal time. The way he handled it was totally irresponsible. If the Rockets can wait and give him he needs, great. Welcome back. If not, a shame for all, but I wouldn't blame the Rockets at all.
