At least sign the guy so we can expose him in the expansion draft.

I would not give him an extension, and hope Cato and MoT get the job covered for 4. Only play EG in garbbage time, let him average 5 minutes a game. By the end of this season, he will show nothing and nobody will be interested in him, and we give him a 3-year minimum contract.
He deserves to be ruined! He ruined himself!

Very good point.

It is a double edged sword - NOT signing may turn out to be a bad business decision (Yes the bottom line is business) but signing will be like rewarding a quiter (very UnAmerican).

I will lean to my compassionate side and say lets sign him and get him adequate help - this will show him and the rest of the NBA that we care, also we would live to gain if he turns it around. If that does not work we could expose him for the expansion draft (I am sure Coach Benny Berkastaff [sp] will like to inherit this project). Heck if we expose him for the expansion draft and he gets chosen that will mean we end up paying only his 2003/2004 season's salary.

PS. Eddie, it will be a lose-lose situation for you to quit. DON'T DO IT. There is no problem that you are going through now that can not be overcome with proper help/counselling/therapy/prayers/support etc.

I hate to criticize, but it's more confusing than illustrative. ;)

Give Eddie a chance, he is still a boy with great potential. Everybody has his own personal difficulties, hope Eddie will overcome this.

Okay folks, we tried to like him, but he just pushed some buttons that didn't needed to be messed with...

We are in the hunt for an aspiring return to glory and he is a pivital piece to the grand scheme of things, so why is he screwing this up?

If he is going to act a fool off the court; then why cant we see some type of Kenyon Martin attitude and knock some heads off!!

Let's see a little less Father Time and a little more Who's Your Daddy!

Eddie is a punk. I loved the guy his rookie year, I used to tell all my friends just wait until Eddie pans out. Well now its just embarrasing to have him on our team. The guy cannot shoot cannot dribble, and Is just too thin to bang inside with the big boys. I really dont see how he will someday be a good player, I mean i just dont see it in his game. He has a horrible worth ethic, and even thinking of quitting basketball infuriates me. SOme of us were just born with talent and idiots like him throw it away. CMON your 6-10, getting millions of dollars for playing a ****ing game, who the hell would walk away from that. If he quits he deserves to work at McDonalds cus i know thats the only kind of job that will be available for his punk ass. Unlike him Im here paying for my college courses, actually studying for class unlike Griff cus i bet all his teachers just passed him cus he was the "Star of the Team", and im also struggling for money. Some people just dont know how good they have it and like to shove it in peoples faces when they say what people say he said. If its true about the whole he doesnt want to play basketball thing I would just blow up. Please God put some sense into this guy and make him realize his talent.:(

dude, rich_argh, maybe you should think about the situation more and write less.....If Eddie really was playing just to get his money, wouldnt he show up to practice until the end of the month, kick ass as much as he can, get his contract extension, and then slack??? in other words, wouldnt it be easier for him to pull a Cato??
The fact that Eddie would do this right before his contract situation, after he was quoted in the chronicle as saying he would like Houston to extend his contract has me to believe something is really wrong....either w/ his family, or w/ his mental/emotional health.
Rich, think about situations before u write a whole freaking page dissing a guy...

From the Chron's Feigen's NBA Notebook: http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/sports/bk/bkn/2166334

Does anyone know what Feigen is talking about? Is he saying we can't use the trade exception for a trade?

Forgive me if this has already been posted... its from Rockets.com. Some columnist in Philly wrote this about EG's dissapearance....I hope the part about him not wanting to play BBall anymore isn't true! What a ****ing waste of potential!!!!

HERE IT IS....

(Because Griffin was a first-time offender of the league's drug policy last season after being charged with possession in April, there have been questions about mar1juana use. Back in Philadelphia, even more rumors are swirling.

There's the complicated relationship with a girlfriend and the recent birth of their child. There are the hangers-on who are as prevalent as flies in the humid Houston weather.

Yet no one knows what specifically is the problem.

"All anyone cares about right now is that Eddie is all right so he can play," a Griffin confidant said. "He wants to quit playing basketball. He doesn't want to play anymore. He's just drained by all the responsibilities in his life and he can't take it anymore. Some, you just know he'll get past. There's too much to lose. But that doesn't mean he isn't going through some tough times right now.")

CRAZY ****

Brian (Vancouver, Wa): Whats going on with Eddie Griffin? I read that he doesn't want to play basketball? The league has got to stop letting these young kids get in the game and suffering or build up a support structure to help them out. Your thoughts?

Chad Ford: (1:45 PM ET ) That's what the Philadelphia Inqurier reported this weekend. What a shame. He's a great talent, but like a lot of good players, he lacks the motivation to make himself into a star player. Talent won't get him there alone. It will be a major blow to the Rockets if Griffin bolts.

Sorry -- I know I'm insensitive. But I want to ask a question as a rockets' fan and not as a new-age counselor.

If Griffin just did completely quit on the team, what would be the implications for our salary cap? Do we get to write off his whole salary (like we're kind of doing game to game right now)?
