NO, HAVING YAO MING ON YOUR TEAM MAKES YOU A CONTENDER. THE POINT IS I THINK EDDIE SHOULD MAKE THE TEAM HIS NUMBER 1 PRIORITY, LIKE YAO DOES. YAO HAS NOT HAD A BREAK IN YEARS.
And exactly how "judgemental" will you feel if this problem with EG becomes the catalyst that torpedoes the Rockets season and lands them in the lottery for a 5th straight year? Would you consider that to be an acceptable price to pay if by season's end EG somehow gets his "act" together and his head screwed on right? Is it right to place EG's welfare above that of the entire team and organization especially during such a critical season as this - particularly when he has done so very little to justify the high price the Rockets paid to get him? I think it's high time that the Rockets players, organization and fans decide what type of team we really want to see here in Houston. Do we REALLY want to have a championship team and organization - one with a legitimate chance of winning an NBA title like the Spurs, Lakers or Mavericks? Does anyone here feel that level of dedication and commitment exists within the Rockets organization? Or do we want an NBA version of the Houston Astros - a team that is built to contend in some years but not in others? How many of you here would be willing to settle for that level of basketball existence?
so you're telling us that you think RJ sucks and that we got the better end of the deal by having Griffin ALL THE WHILE 2 paragraphs later you say that Griffin is a bust? And then you support that by saying that it has risks in taking a young player because he has potential...but then you say that we can't have everything with your cliche ending.....sounds to me you need to get your head straight on what kind of point you're trying to get at.
EG's picture has been on the ClutchCity.Net Home Page too long? He's now a bad boy. Can we replace it with either Yao's, Francis' or JVG's picture?
I got carried away in my thread and missed a thought. Pardon me. What I meant to say was that for anyone to use the reasoning that the trade was dumb because Jefferson is much further in his development is the cynical part. Hind sight is wonderful. But it boils down to the following: Jefferson > Griffin 2001 rock's w/Jefferson > 2001 rock's w/Griffin 2001 rock's w/Jefferson > 6 th seed in the lottery 6 th pick in the lottery = Yao Ming Everyone should be thankful to Griffin he sucked so much that it helped this team get that 6th pick that got us Yao.
i really hope NONE of yall posters who are ripping shreads of Eggie ever have children, imagine what will happen if they make mistakes or ever get into some trouble or have emotional or mental problems, i pray (and I'm not religious) you don't have kids and and if you do you don't give up on them so easily, damn he is a young man and so many posters are ready to give up and crucify the young guy.
No I don't think it makes me stupid because I have all the facts in black and white from the idiotic post like yours. Therefore I am not speculatiting or jumping to conclusions like YOU.
Give me a break. If all it takes to torpedo our entire season and land us in the lottery is for Eddie Griffin to screwup and miss a couple of days in the preseason then were in trouble anyway. There ahs been many teams win an NBA title that had players that were way more overboard than EG. If you don't like the way the team is going and your so enamoured with the Spurs, Lakers or Mavericks why not just start rooting for one of them?
The reason he got the extra game was because he told JVG that he'd due better, play harder, be at practice and still didn't show up. Also he missed the team flight and didn't take enough initiative to catch another flight. That's not being professional. Strict is what the team needs. You see where Rudy got them, playing street ball with no structure. No structure means no playoff.
I like the way JVG is slapping Eddie in the face with his gold slingers. Ship up or sit the **** down.
Check out how the NY/NJ media is playing this: the Nets definitely got the good end of that trade. I don't think anyone on this board would disagree. http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/story/127927p-114451c.html Big thumbs up for trading down 2001 draft-day deal a winner for Nets By OHM YOUNGMISUK DAILY NEWS SPORTS WRITER As Richard Jefferson excels for Nets, Eddie Griffin has been Rockets headache. When the Nets passed up on Eddie Griffin on draft night 2001 and opted to trade him to Houston for three first-round picks, some were scratching their heads since Griffin was considered a potential first overall pick. These days, it's the Rockets scratching their heads over Griffin's personal problems after coach Jeff Van Gundy suspended the talented forward indefinitely for conduct detrimental to the team. Meanwhile, the Nets, who felt they got the better of the deal the minute it was made on June 27, 2001, are looking like clear winners with Richard Jefferson and Jason Collins playing key roles on a team that has made two straight NBA Finals. The Nets likely will exercise a fourth-year options on both players' contracts before the Oct. 31 deadline. While everyone will remember the Jason Kidd-Stephon Marbury trade as the deal that transformed the Nets from laughingstock to title contender, the swap of Griffin for Jefferson, Collins and Brandon Armstrong provided the team with important pieces to complement Kidd. "I think they didn't think they'd get a center like Jason Collins who would start for them and play so well and do so many things," Jefferson said of those who doubted the deal. "(Critics didn't) think they'd get a player like myself, an athletic forward who would really contribute. Brandon Armstrong is really starting to come into his own." Kidd said Collins would surprise many during training camp of 2001 and the 7-footer, taken 18th overall, has averaged 5.1 points and 4.2 rebounds in two seasons. Jefferson, taken 13th overall, averaged 15.5 points and 6.4 rebounds in his first season as a starter last year.
Griffin is a freakin moron. I don't give a damn about his excuses. For someone who is not even earning the money he's getting, and who isn't that good at playing professional basketball, dude is too immature to realize he's got the opportunity of a lifetime and doesn't seem to care. Three years of "potential" is enough.Time for Ed to get a dose of reality. Cut the b*tch.
I hate the fact that people always bring that trade up!! PPL let it go!! Yes Eddie hasnt lived up to any of his expectations except for the attitude one! BUT ALMOST EVERYBODY ON THIS BORED WAS HAPPY WHEN THE ROCKETS MADE THAT TRADE!!! who actually knew Eddie was gonna be sorry and RJ was gonna b on the olympic team!? NOBODY! SO SHUT THE FU**UP!!!!
While we weren't exactly in what I'd call "trouble" we weren't exactly looking all that great either - especially when you consider that the Rockets did very little to improve their front line in the offseason. When you look at the rest of the Western Conference, they are at a distinct disadvantage against the other teams personnel wise and that was with a productive and motivated EG in the mix. This is no simple preseason screwup on EG's part. This is part of a continuing series of events that lead me to conclude that the Rockets made huge a mistake drafting him. I could look at this episode in the same light as you had EG shown SOMETHING on the court to justify their giving up so much to get him here. Now you have EG AWOL, MoT hurt (again) and they just picked up Pig Miller off the trash heap to plug the hole at PF. This makes them competative in the West? You did not answer my question: Will you and the others here still feel the same about EG if his antics land them in the lottery for a 5th straight year? My guess is no because when all is said and done, wins and losses are the only things that will matter when you assess the success or failure of this season. The Lakers are 1 year removed from winning a title. The Spurs have just won their 2nd title in 5 years. The Mavericks, once the joke of the league, have in 3 years leapfrogged the Rockets in the standings, won 60 games and reached the Western Conference Finals. The other teams in the division, Minn, Sac, Phoenix (even Memphis & Denver), have taken concrete steps toward improving their teams. The Rockets? Still continue to go in circles or remain stuck in a rut spinning their wheels or suffer from off court distractions that prevent them from taking definite steps toward improvement. The only area in which they have improved is their ability to offer excuses for not winning.
Possum Okay then. That makes you an unintelligent compound 1diot and a hypocrite. I am now convinced you received half-baked education. No need wasting time with puerile and daft individuals like you. So long young man....
