What a great game! UH vs UH, with the Warriors of Hawai'i winning both the game and the fight! So many names I remember watching... Aloha Stadium has probably become one of the toughest places to play in the nation, with the travel time, the innumerable distractions of Hawai'i, and the extremely rowdy crowd. It probably peaked for the 2007 season, where USC, Michigan, Mississippi State and Michigan State turned down a payment of $750,000 to play. As for the fight, Hawai'i plays extremely aggressively on defense by design; the DCs under June Jones have preached big hits and headhunting, even at the expense of fundamentally sound tackling, which is why you see plenty of highlight reel knocks, and open field misses. They want to put the fear of being knocked out into the opposing offense. I can definitely see why players would get upset at the end of a game. Hawai'i, although it's known for being the Aloha state, can definitely be very hostile to outsiders, especially blacks and Caucasians, contemptuously known as Haoles, who definitely take more than their fair share of blame for the state's problems. Still, really good game, and I love it whenever Hawai'i gets any airtime. Here's looking at you, Neil Everett!
