Watching these old finals makes me remember how necessary great 3pt shooters really are on a team with a dominant big man. Kenny Smith, Robert Horry, Mario Ellie, and Sam Cassell all hit big three's when anyone even thought about double teaming Hakeem. Even Vernon Maxwell could hit a big shot when it counted. Man, I miss that team. You could see the hunger and emotion. It's something we lack now.
I like how Horry could play D, shoot 3s and get dunks. I notice some funny things comments on this game: Matt Gucas says "Cassell doesnt shoot that middle shot very well".
I miss the Real Rocket Uniforms. Loved the interior passing against the Knicks. Dream and OT were men that whole Knicks series. Damn thugs. I must have counted 20 unnecessary shoves, little elbows, etc., the Knicks were throwing our way in just that one game. Also, forgot how fired up Horry was against the Knicks... certainly plays against the image he's developed as a cool customer in his later years... he was white-hot the whole game.
he threw one down on oakley and he threw one down on ewing. now he's just known for his 3 point shooting. oh those were the days!
speaking of horry dunking, I'll never forget the christmas game on nbc 93 the year they won the championship and horry must have had 10 dunks. it was a preview of the western conference semis. then later the oilers went on to beat san francisco to complete a 12-0 run. one of the greatest days in houston sports.
