Hakeem wasn't respected then. It wouldn't have mattered if he scored 70 points.

No, I meant they skipped a bunch of his points early I think. I look up and he has 28 - must've missed most of them. They skipped pretty much the whole 1st quarter it seems. He had about 28-30 at the end of the 3rd.

They made a comment during the game that Kareem stated Hakeem was far and away the best center in the game at that time. I think it was Worrell or Newlin that said something like "I'm sure New York would disagree" hinting at the Patrick Ewing fans.

And wow... a Mitchell Wiggins sighting!

speaking of maxwell and his penchant for shooting a lot, anyone notice we are hardly taking any 3's? i mean maxwell's 3 in the 4th was the first one i can remember seeing. in our heyday we would've seen about 15 attempts by now, and that's even with skipping a whole quarter and a half or so.

seriously, the only white guy on our team seems to be hakeem's leg.

and hey, who had ricky williams retiring from the nfl today in their office pool?

OMG, that shot that just gave him 50 was SICK. Spin move at a hundred miles an hour and ends in popping a jumper from 18 feet.

codell, by the way, the coach was Doug "I have no clue how to match my clothing" Moe.

What a sad ending to an unbelievable performance. Man, I miss the Dream. :(

what's more amazing. that hakeem developed all his amazing moves, or that he developed all his amazing moves after already having the baseline turnaround jumper? i mean has he missed it yet?

52 points, 18 rebounds. i guess that's an ok stat line. and that's with bavetta hating on him most of the night.

i did love how ESPN classic had a little video montage right before overtime or so with tons of buzzer beaters and tons of big plays and we barely made it on there. i didn't see the Kiss of Death or The Shot (but saw allan houston's shot against the heat) and while rudy is saying "don't ever underestimate the heart of a champion," do we get to see him saying it or a rockets play? no, we get to see jordan hugging someone. and to top it off there were about 5 plays that went against us. dammit.

Well I didn't get to see this game because my parents didn't have cable back then, so it was my first time. I didn't get to see any Rockets home games back in the day.

I was thinking the same thing about what it took to go from mediocre to championship team. Looking back at that game, this team wasn't bad at all, and I would argue that Sleepy Floyd was better than Kenny or the Rockets version of Cassell. Go look at his stats on this site. They're pretty good. And I would also argue that Hakeem's game wasn't much different in 90 than it was in 94. I saw a lot of base line spin moves and 18 foot jumpers tonight. Maybe the biggest differences were Rudy T and Robert Horry.

Lastly, I can't believe that the Rockets flirted with the idea of trading Olajuwon. Bill Simmons wrote a nice column on the Shaq trade, and he mentioned the Rockets almost trading Olajuwon but not being able to find a good return. Hakeem has to be one of the most under appreciated superstars in sports history.
