It's because he's acting like we're close, but Jared Jeffries is the hitch. There is nothing in that deal that is even close to appealing. Why on earth would we even consider it?

Ok I see what you're saying but he says in his piece no deal is close and that the only way we get serious is if they add Danilo Gallinari to the mix. Even says a third team is needed for anything to take place which is what most of us have been saying forever.

Things are heating up already. Someone is going to offer the right deal between now and February.

If you managed to get David Lee? If you managed to get Gallinari? MAYBE, but only if another deal was in place, a third team, or a separate deal that ships out one of our coveted power forwards and whatever.

But I just don't see this.

If we get Lee, we will have to find a 3rd team to take him or Scola/Landry since were set at that position hence I dont think the Rockets are seeking Lee unless they can flip him for someone they want. Morey would jump if the Knicks agreed to offer Gallinari but they won't so that ends that. If Tmac is going to the Knicks, a 3rd team will HAVE to get involved. I don't see a straight deal between Hou and NY for Mac.

The knicks have jack and so do most teams. Lets focus on the free agents this summer ( Bosh/Stoudemire)

Knicks are not getting Tmac with a straight up trade with us, they are going to have to call a 3rd team to get this done.

That 3rd team could be either Golden State or Miami. I don't know what the kind of deal can be made but if is not worth it the team should just wait out TMac's contract.

Yes, hence the "unless we have a separate deal in place that ships out one of our coveted power forwards" part of my original post....but yeah, ditto on what you write here.

Without a third team somewhere in the mix....just don't see it.

How many of these sorry NY-based stories do there have to be. I'll try writing one now.

"Knicks interested in McGrady. Knicks offer cap busters, trash, and worse trash. Houston requests that actual assets be included in trade. Knicks rethink deal, pull back Mobley expiring deal and instead offer 10 signed Eddy Curry jerseys. Will Rockets decide this is the best offer?"

Jeffries is not a bad player. His problem is that he (and Curry) is the road block to some of NYK's free agency dreams and hopes.

As such, there would have to be some incentive coming back to the Rockets for taking on his contract in exchange for an expiring one. And the only piece I think make sufficient sense from the Knicks would be Gallinari-- and of course the Knicks don't want to deal him. There are other decent young guys, but none really fit. Lee is too simliar to the Scola/Landry combo (productive PF, but not quite elite and not really long) and needs to get paid this summer. Robinson is yet another small guard. Wilson Chandler? Decent overall player, don't know if he's a star or brings enough to challenge the existing wings.

Maybe something like McGrady+Rockets 1st round pick for Jeffries+Gallinari+Mobley+contract filler?

If the Knicks really want to get under the cap why can't they just buy out all the years of Jeffries deal and lump all that money into this year, and pay an enormous lux tax bill?

Is that possible? Have it all count in one year?

Only Daryl Morey himself has said that it is incredibly difficult to acquire a star player via free agency with the rules that the league has in place and that it's considerably easier to do it via trade - so that's what he's going to do.

And seriously? You really think the Rockets can sign Bosh or Stoudemire with the 7 million or so in cap space they'll have? Or are you one of those people who hasn't been paying attention the last year or so and still think the Rockets are going to have 20 million in cap space because T-Mac expires?

would be cool to see McGrady in a knick uni, but as a Rockets fan, I don't want anything from the Knicks. We already had enough ex-Knicks during JVG's tenture, hahaha.

don't know where else to write this, so here's my main question:

the Rockets stood pat by not putting T-Mac in the lineup early in the season, and the reason they did this was to not mess with chemistry...

why then would the team reinvent the wheel in order to move the guy- breaking up the team was never part of the plan, no?

This is the whole crux of the issue, IMO. I don't even want anything back in a trade unless it's an absolute stud of a player.
