Is that supposed to be a compliment?

Maybe your logic would hold more merit if JVG didn't have a huge hand in constructing the team.

Here's some great info on a workout for Rudy Gay, and Steve Novak. Looks like Novak may be playing himself out of our 32 spot. Apparently, we worked him out yesterday. He sounds like a player that we could really use.

So true. The control freak pretty much hand picked these guys.

It's hard to really make anything out from that...they were so high on 3 of the 4 players there. It sounded like Gay is going to be awesome, than like Novak is going to be much better than expected, than like Gray will be quite a surprise...

It would have been cool if they added commentary about where they thought the players should be drafted based on the workout alone.

You know, I'm not that sure about that anymore. It may well be that JVG's "influence" on personnel matters is somewhat exaggerated. His statements after the season would seem to bear this out. IF JVG is really the puppet master behind the personnel moves, then why didn't he address the point guard, shooting guard & power forward problems, especially after he got a first hand look at what this team needed when the Mavs blew them out of the playoffs last year? JVG is no dummy and he understands what it takes to compete against the teams in the West. If he was indeed responsible for adding players, surely he would have addressed this team's pressing needs with moves better than what we've seen.

No, what transpired during the past offseason was the same ineffectual things we have seen now for more than a few years under CD and the rest of those making personnel decisions. The good news is that a much needed change will finally be made at the top of the Rockets organization. The bad news is that it won't finally happen until next year.

Like I said before, we should separate JVG the GM from JVG the coach. The first is clueless, the 2nd is TBD.

I think if CD is the puppet master he wouldn't have brought in so many washed up ex-knicks, include the recent Rick Brunson.

If JVG had success with tinkering the roster in the Sura-Wesley-James-Barry season, I see no reason he's suddenly deprived of that priviledge.

CD and JVG is a tandem that screwed up the last offseason. I'll keep a close watch on what they do this offseason.

This is reported by Hua Yue of Basketball Pioneers today.

    Workouts at Rockets

Sorry I am not capable to translate the entire article but basically Hua reported that Rockets conducted 2 workouts recently and the first group of players were all PG including Randy Foye, Daniel Gibson, Rajon Rondo and Darius Washington. What interesting here is that, according to Hua, Rockets is more interested to Randy Foye instead of Rajon Rondo. He said CD thought Rondo was not strong enough while Washington was overweight. The article also mentioned that Gibson looked so tense and he had the worst performance in the workout.

Steve Novak, Dee Brown, Paul Davis, Chris Quinn and Chris Hernandez were in the 2nd workout. The article mentioned that Dee Brown used to play with Luther Head. Both of them, together with Deron Williams (Jazz), formed the "Trident" of Illinois (I didn't follow NCAA games, I hope this Illinois Trident stuff didn't cracks you up :) ). However, STEVE NOVAK is the one Rockets interested most.

I found it very interesting to compare the differences amongst these articles (Chad Ford's, Draftexpress and Basketball Pioneers). Like some other posters mentioned earlier, I don't believe Rockets will tell the truth to reporters regarding their preference too. Steve Novak seems to be a good fit to our team but I doubt our chance of getting him in 2nd round. He would probably get picked by Wizards or Kings in the first round considering his outstanding performance in the workouts.

I'm not sure if you guys have seen Rajon Rondo but he shoots free throws like Bo Outlaw. The guy literally shoots them with one hand, he shot 57% in college. His hands are gigantic and it makes his shot look terrible. I don't care if he can knock down shots in a drill, he has no confidence during games and shot under 30% from the college 3.

Marcus Williams is a superior player by far and could've scored 20+ in college if he wanted to. Look at the tourney for evidence. Just as a natural passer, he blows every single one of these combo guards away.
