Gerald Green is from Houston and C.J. Miles is from Dallas. Unfortunately, Miles doesn't have the possibilities Green has. However, I will be upset if either is traded to a team other than Houston.
I wouldn't want anything the jailblazers have for our #8 pick, even for our #32. That team is full of malcontent, dope smoking, law breaking, underperforming players. There is a reason they are having a fire sale. Stay away Rockets.
The even more confusing part is why people are more excited about it if you add Outlaw to the mix. Now, I understand, the kid has POTENTIAL. And, in hindsight, in 5 years you may be able to say dang, we should have made that move. But still, 3rd year in the league, worst team in the league, can't get more than 17 mpg, 5.8 ppg, 2 rpg, etc. Throw in Telfair, who has done just barely a little bit more than that...bleh, crappy deal. Telfair/Outlaw may both have potential to be better, but at pick #8, you can still get a superstar, a regular all-star or even an occasional all-star, which is more intriguing to me.
So, here's the deal. Howard and Rybo for Miles. S&T Wesley for Khryapa and Jack. We send them #8 and they send us 30 and 31. We then have 30, 31, 32 with 31, and 32 being non-guaranteed. We then stay right there and make sure we get Novak or we combine a couple of those picks and/or Swift to another team like NO with multiple picks in the first round or use them in a NJ swap for Swift and their picks which would yield us a bigger trade exception that we could use to entice TO to do an S&T for MJ. You guys are missing the point on the trade possibilities. If we do not move Juwan, we are stuck with a slow, flat flooted, slow, flat footed power forward in a conference of fast athletic slashing, outside shooting power forwards. Moving Howard and getting anything back in return is a net positive. The VERY WORST CASE scenario with Miles is he doesn't respond to being with a winning organziation and a very good coach. That can't be any worse than putting Juwan out there for 30 minutes a night and watching him get chewed up by every team we go up against. If Miles doesn't make it, we've basically traded our #8 for Jack, Khryappa, and 30, and 31. That by itself is not a bad trade. The other side of the equation is that Miles' trade value is at an all time low. He does have amazing length and athletic ability and would make us a very, very good perimeter defending team on the floor with McGrady if he did decide to buy into the team. And Jarrett Jack would be right there with Marcus Williams in this year's draft if he were in it. Jack is the hard nosed, gutsy, leave it on the floor, defensive point guard that Van Gundy loves that will do all the little things to make his team better. He's got great attitude and tenaciousness.
I don't think anyone disagrees that we have to improve the PF position. What I do disagree on is the value in the trade proposed. Again, the #8 pick CAN net you a bonafide all-star in this league. In 98, for example, picks 8-11 yielded Larry Hughes, Dirk, Paul Pierce and Bonzi Wells. In 1999 picks 7-10 yielded Rip Hamilton, Andre Miller, Shawn Marion, Jason Terry. Picks 8 and 9 in 2000 = Jamal Crawford and Joel Pryzbilla. Joe Johnson went pick 10. Amare at #9. Caron Butler at #10. Iguodala at #10. Point is, the trade you suggested brings back quantity, but lacks quality. Of course, the Rockets could end up drafting Dajuan Wagner (pick 5) instead of Paul Pierce. But then the problem with management in my opinion isn't that they had the chance to trade for a bunch of role players at best and didn't do it, but that they screwed up the draft. We have to replace Juwan for sure, but not by trading something with potentially enormous value (#8 pick) for what are currently mainly scrubs.
#8 for Zach Randolph? If they want to trade a 19 and 9 guy for the 8th pick you have to do it. I don't care what any of these other people are saying, he can play. He keeps the fouls low, gets a between 2 and 3 assists a game. That's more than Yao. He's an excellent, excellent, excellent 3rd option. He's proven that he can put it in the basket consistently. You'd be mad not to take that trade.
He's also owed about $75 million or so for the next 5 years, has a very bad attitude, crime history, and has a bad knee. Plus his numbers would go down with Yao and T-Mac, just like Juwan Howard's and Shareef's did. Their games are even similar: decent post game, nice mid range jumper, put up numbers on bad teams, no defense. There is no way the Rockets trades for Zach Randolph.
I live up here in PDX, so I read a lot about these guys. We do not want Randolph or Miles. These guys have destroyed the blazers with their contracts and attitudes. They are not talented or versatile enough to warrant the risk of destroying Rockets team chemistry. Zach is a big time pouter and will not be happy as 3rd option. The guys to look at are Steve Blake, Victor Khryapa, and even Brian Skinner. Blake would be a great #2 point , Skinner a good backup c/pf and Khryapa could be a pretty versatile backup. But none of these guys is worth the #8.
with all due respect, were you high (kinda like Miles usually is) when typing this.....no rockets fan should ever want Miles (nuless we can get rid of Howard for him)
Thus, the fire sale. Its is a buyers market, with no one calling Portland. And the #8 pick will likely not bring a rainmaker ... I don't see the Rox biting on this offer (or anyone else for that matter).
Anyone who would want Darius Miles on their basketball team probably thinks the Professa' is a better PG than Steve Nash.
Anybody who wants to keep Juwan on this team probably thinks 'Escalade' is a better center than Shaq Daddy.
this thread is making me sick to my stomach The only way I trade Juwon is for a smaller contract, that is it. I do not want the rockets to take on one of these players that make more than Juwon, and then hope that they do not disrupt the team chemistry. One thing people take for granted about Juwon, is that he brings it every night and knows his limits. Unlike Miles and Randolph, who are having trouble staying clean in Portland. If they are getting into so much trouble in lame ass portland, I dont even want to begin to think about what they hell they would do in a big city like Houston.
