With Lebron basically mulling over whether he even wants to be in Cleveland, there's probably not much chance he's into recruiting Melo for it.

It wouldn't surprise me Melo's original idea was Cleveland, but that fell away as the Cleveland situation got worse, that debacle certainly has a fluidity to it that matches the time frames.

Buyout is looking a 50percent chance where as a few weeks ago it looked like a no chance in hell scenario.

Can't the Knicks take Anderson and the 1st round pick for Melo. Then buy out Anderson?

He is owed much more money over the life of his deal, Carmelo has one year left.

Buying out Anderson with 3 yeas 60 million left is completely untenable.

Longer duration of dead cap money. Matt Maloney clause.

I thought about this yesterday too, but then realized that Melo is owed less than Anderson overall. It would probably cost NY more to buyout Anderson's contract than it would Melo's.

In my head at least, it would make sense for NY to do a straight up Ryno + fillers + picks for Melo, and then flip Anderson later in the season. Anderson's a stretch 4 and would have value on a playoff team needing a shooter who can shoot lights out in any arena outside of TC.

It puts them at roughly the same spot. Anderson and Melo have similar contracts in terms of length and cost (albeit Anderson is a bit cheaper). Dead cap space doesn't help that team unless it comes with good picks. The rockets aren't necessarily rich in picks either. Basically, NYK would get 50 cents on the dollar back at best. Not worth it.

Anderson is owed 60 million and Melo is owed 54 million.

Carmelo has 2 years. He can opt-out after this upcoming season but he'd be forfeiting $29 million the Knicks owe him. You think he's going to opt-out knowing he won't get close to the same contract anywhere else?

Yep. We will use one of our exceptions on him. Melo getting bought out is the best scenario for the Rockets IMO.
