In no particular order: No state income taxes, fancy rec center, and lots of high-end "gentlemen's clubs".

Mutombo has a big heart. Thats just part of the business, though. He wouldnt have been the only one that happened to...I'd think Mutombo even surprised himself a little hanging on as long as he did. Camby is 36. Mutombo was 38(!) when he joined the Rockets.

This thread shows people subconsciously always think of the amount of money a player makes. The past 3 years there's a lot of Camby opinion of naaah OVERRATED, stat stuffer, injury prone, do not want. etc...at $10+ mil

At league minimum - hell YEAH bring him ! He'd be a PERFECT backup to Yao, you kdding me? AND he lives in Houston!?

That's more along the lines of what I've been saying is likely to happen this offseason. I know people are wishing for Bosh or Wade but I don't think those are going to happen anytime soon.

Getting Camby to back up Yao also allows Hayes to move to backup PF, which would be a better fit..

I'd absolutely love having him as a back up center. He'd especially be useful as Yao works his way back up to playing shape. Is he an FA this summer? Hell with Portland's issues giving up 3 bigs (Andersen,Jeffries, and Armstrong) in place of their broken 2 would be good. Although having the Aussie come up here then traded seasons' ends would be mean spirited then yet again Landry was traded.

I have no idea. I just know that offering the veteran's minimum would be insulting to a player of his magnitude. And Morey always likes to keep his flexibility with the MLE. Even with the Rockets in luxury tax territory next year, it'll only cost Les $4.16M to add Camby for the LLE. That's still pretty good value.

That said, my guess is that Camby won't be a Rocket next year. But it's at least worth a shot.

(And, no, the Rockets should NOT make getting Camby a top priority this summer. I think re-signing Scola and Lowry and trying to organize a sign-and-trade for a big name free agent, or even an outright trade for a good player under contract, are all higher priority than adding a 36-year-old to be the backup center.)

    Yao / Camby / Hill
    Scola / Hayes / Andersen / Jeffries
    Battier / Ariza
    Martin / Budinger / Taylor
    Brooks / Lowry

I'm not sure if we need him, but he would be a nice backup for something like 2 years, $9 million.

I think we should focus on drafting a PG in this draft. I know you always take the best player available, but pass first PG that can knock down the three would be nice.

There is a chance we won't re-sign Lowry or Hayes. Scola is in the bag.

If we sign Camby, Hayes is gone unless he comes back for the minimum. I'd hate to lose him but we'd be counting pennies at that point with regard to the luxury tax. Lowry will be back unless traded.

Camby is nice, but our backup C should be someone very durable and tough physically, in case Yao gets another word-that-must-not-be-mentioned.

Mutombo part 2? he is injury prone, but i can see him effective for quite some many years as long as his minutes are limited.

Haha I remember meeting Camby at the Galleria. It was my senior year in HS (2006), and my buddies and I were at the Mac store when I smell this dank stench of weed. I look up, and low and behold, its Marcus and his posse! His eyes were a deep red, and he just mingled around.

We ended up going around the Galleria with him (following, sorta). I finally worked up the courage to talk to him and asked if he'd ever come to Houston b/c he'd look really good with Yao in a twin towers lineup. He laughed and mumbled, "yeah man that's what I wanna do, just gotta wait and see."

It just seems odd when he says the latter part of his career. Not sure how much longer he thinks he will be able to play in the league. Possibly 3 or 4 at the most I'm guessing.

I've been saying that the Rockets should pursue the Cambyman for a while now. As a backup, he would be ideal here in Houston. For 20-25 mpg, Camby still gets the job done, even at his age.

I think Camby would be a great signing... tremendous D and could play significant minutes to rest Yao..... Get 'er Done Morey..... I think it would be perfect to balance the team with defensive and offensive players...

Certainly wouldn't mind having Camby at a reasonably priced contract next season.

this right here. camby would have been a good option but at his age, the contract he was given was just too much. I'm all for him being a back up for Yao next year.
