Interesting story. It talks about the Astros lost him over a couple of mil.

Weren't we only offering 1 year 12 mil which would make 2 years 28 mil more than just a couple of mil? Or did we increase to 2 years?

This thing also claims that the "buzz" around baseball is that MLB officals weren't happy with the Astros 100 mild eal and Drayton might have been trying to keep payroll low to please them???

I don't understand that, there are tons of big deals going around.

Something not mentioned here is remember Andy's first year, it was basically a wash courtesy of the injury bug and we didnt have him for the playoffs we had to rely on has-beens and washouts ... thus, why we couldnt get past STL in the NLCS, outside of Rocket and Ozz and of course that hometown sensation, Backe, we largely had no one else. We had to exhaust our bullpen just to get IN to the playoffs.

2005, Petitte was inconsistent for most of the first half and then, caught crazy fire finishing the season 17-9 2.39 ERA I believe those were the numbers. Still, he was pretty good at best in the playoffs, nothing extraordinary.

Last year? What did he do?

So, if you put on your GM hat for a minute, you basically largely wasted a 3 yr contract for 30+ million dollars. You didnt even get half production from that contract.

Would you A) pony more money when you already have a feeling he could break down more. B) listen to the fickle fans? C) try to find someone younger, more talented and perhaps play for similar money.

As usual some so-called Astros fans never cease to show the ability to show their ASS on this subject.

Hey Fat Boy Timmy P did a good job getting Carlos Lee. Whether you all want to admit or not. Woody W. isnt a scrub either. Should he get Jon Garland as anticipated, again he's a better alternative to Pettitte. He's younger that's a better situation for us.

It's unfortunate but Pettitte was starting to break down, Roger sadly is probably not coming back, but I cant blame him sometimes that the way it goes. It may be his time to finally call it quits which would really suck. :(

If it is, thanks Rocket for all your efforts and leadership! No regrets. :) :) :)

The Stros have to get younger and more talented to better compete in our what will be hotly contested division.

I can't believe he is going back to NY, If he pitches like he did last yr. in the AL, he will have an ERA of 6. Screw Andy, if Roger goes too, screw him.

I didn't think I could hate New York any more, but I do. F the Yankees, F the Mets. Rot in hell New York.

AP isn't worth that much money at this point in his career. Paying that much for Andy is like the stupid Giants paying that much for Bonds.

A team is the sum of all the parts and at this point AP is replaceable.

What Roger Clemens planned to do should have never even figured into the AP decision. Detroit made it to the World Series with young arms, why can't the Stros?

I can totally understand not wanting to pay him more than they think he is worth to the team.

It isn't "my" money so yeah I might want them to sign all the best free agents. However, from their standpoint they have to decide things based on their budget and other options, etc.

If they aren't able to find another solid pitcher, then it could end up that Andy may have been the best option (even if it took a 2 year deal and 28 mil). Hopefully, we can find another pitcher.

I guess you are talking about Bengie, he is a SF Giant now. Willis is off the market, explain why Florida would want to trade him while he is still so young?

That price tag seems high and I don't blame them for avoiding those numbers. However, if could be that this was a year that you had to pay big money to get good pitchers. I hope we are able to find another pitcher. I just am glad that this is done now and not into January.

Seriously, do you buy into this "MLB & Selig pissed off at us for giving $100 mil to Lee" stuff? Out of nowhere to me..

Andy was not very good this year, and looked pretty disinterested. I appreciate that he came here and played hard, but I am not sad to see him go....

I would rather see some of the young guys get a chance.......

I just posted the link to the story, I don't know the story behind it.

I don't know why people would be upset with us, when everyone else is giving out big money. I'd be curious to know the rest of that story. It doesn't make much sense to me, that's why I'd like to know more about that aspect of the story.

Andy, if $2MM was the difference in your decision, goodbye. I'm glad we didn't sign you and I'm glad the Yankees did. It will be wasted money; better them than the Stros. If getting Carlos Lee meant losing you, great decision by Purpura!

andy pettite is a little b!tch. how dare you be injured your whole first year with us and then leave over 2 million.. don't apologize to fans if you didn't even mean it. you are a lying, two-timing paper seeker. NY will never win.. and even if they did, how could you be satisfied??? that team is overstacked with overpaid talent.... winning on a team like that is like a normal guy winning the r****ded olympics. and even if, the Yankees keeping losing!!! HAH!!!!!

This is a freaking joke, Andy came to Houston for less and wanted to stay here and stay here for less (4 million over two years to be exact)

This is so stupid from a baseball standpoint, number 1 we could of helped sure up our staff with a guy we know who happens to be our own free agent. FYI that does not cost us players or a draft pick like a trade or free agent signing from another team would.

This is so typical we go out and extend Lance and Roy just as Bidge goes into what might be his final year and Bagwell retires and what do we do go sign a big name free agent and just as things look good we lowball Pettitte and he bolts just as Roger will to. This move is just stupid and there is no reason to defend it.
