Don't let the door hit ya on the way out Andy

If the Yanks are willing to risk 16 million on Pettitte with his elbow issues , let them do it . I would rather let them deal with the possibility of him having the injury come up again and pay all those millions for an injury riddled season .

We'll see how he looks vs. the AL East lineups. I'm pretty well convinced he ain't worth $16 million up there.

    Olney on WFAN....

says that Astros backed off due to money...also says astros/drayton got frustrated with hendricks bros not being his buddy after the last few good years with signing AP/Roger...and how well drayton has treated those guys and their clients...and drayton got fed up and said lets move on

Another reason not to believe the Hendricks brothers... "Andy won't make a decision till December 22nd, at the earliest."

Uhh... December 8th... and probably would have been done sooner if they hadn't waited for the Astros to try and make a last-ditch offer.

Hell... this is just like when we signed Pettite... except back then, the Yankees did make a last ditch offer and they still rejected it.

The killer in all of this is that now the Astros will have to pony up more to get a number 2 pitcher from another team. Tim's going to have to really pull a few rabbits out of the hat to make the Astros a playoff team.

Daryton needs to undertsand that there are no buddies and friends in this business. The old man still doesn't get it, he thinks hometown good ole boys will take discounts. Anyways, pettitte will not pitch the whole year, he is breaking down like his good ole buddy, roger. purpura needs to get off his fat ass and get Garland and Suppan!

you have no idea what drayton thinks or thought about this deal.

the astros have clearly seen this coming....it's why they were working so hard for Garland.

They need to work harder, purpura hasn't made a decent trade since he's been gm.

I don't see how Andy is to blame. Did the agent not say the Astros turned down the offer? This reminds me of how they let Jeff Kent go over minor details. Stupid.

It wouldn't surprise me if Clemens went back to the Yankees now.

I wouldn't pay pettitte 16 mil either. He ain't worth it. Roger isn't worth more than 7 or 8 either. Glad they are gone, now take ausmus with you.

Well at least we won't have to see those horrible freaking HEB commercials anymore. Pettitte has to be the worst jock actor ever. It reminded me of when Rocky was trying to do the deoderant commercials.

Don't the Hendricks Bastards work for Andy? It almost seems like it's the other way around.

They've pulled this crap on the Stros before...ask Gerry Hunsicker.

Was very pleased to see the Astros wouldn't bite on offering 16 mill....Pettite has been decent, but he's too big an injury risk...had we paid him $16 mil, our hands would have been tied as far as adding bullpen help.....I think Purpura and Uncle Drayton realize the need to make a deal and MAYBE we can swing a deal for Garland or Peavy (prolly not). But I think the writing was on the wall yesterday...so this news is no surprise....

The Yanks starting staff sure is gonna be full of old guys.....Unit/Mussina/Pettite then Wang and good ol' Pavano.

Pettite is a nice pitcher, but he's no ace...the Yanks will still be hunting for a stud ace come the ASB.

Maybe cuz he had one of the lowest ERA's in the majors last year. Better than Oswalt and Santana. I really dont care that much that Pettite left. Andy was shaky last season but Clemens is a pitcher that the Astros need.

Correct me If I am wrong, but the Astros only made the World Series AFTER we acquired Clemens and Pettite.

    1. When Andy signed here didn't he say the most important thing was being close to his children. New York is awfully far from Deer Park.

    2. They said Andy would make a decision to play after christmas. Then they saw how much money was being thrown at guys and wanted to get in on it. So if he wasn't ready to make a decision on retiring or not then how has he all of a sudden changed to his mind. 16 mil that's why.

    3. If he was ready to retire why does he need a 2 year deal? Granted it's a player option, but still. For someone who was gonna retire now wanting 2 year deal seems contradictory to what he said.

    4. Just because Petite is gone doesn't mean Clemens won't come back for at least half a season like he did last year. No one in baseball has a nicer deal then Clemens with his only having to travel with the team when he pitches. Plus the fact that we have a 10 year personal services contract with him after he retires. Clemens may retire, but if he doesn't the Petite signing doesn't mean Roger won't sign with us again.

How is a $1.5M (15%) raise over his last contract (when he performed well for only half of said contract and has serious ongoing health concerns) construed as a discount?
