Again, did you see the Fox halftime show, wher every rookie received some type of negative remarks, besides Bush ("see his big play ability on this run...he is averaging 7 yds a carry, etc").
No, I didn't see it.They are certaily in the minority though from everything I've heard. If they gave Cutler negaive remarks then they must be blind. He's been outstanding (looks like a franchise QB and he's in the perfect system). I've heard some negaive stuff on VY but I thought he played a pretty good second game. Yeah, he took a lick and fumbled but that's part of the learning experience. He had enough sense to find the ball and still score the TD (plus he took the hit well). His first game he had a receiver drop a perfect 50 yd pass so the people who are bashing him aren't giving him a chance whatsoever. Leinart looked good considering he hadn't had much practice time and his receivers dropped a couple of passes. In terms of Bush, you have to take it for what ti's orth. The dudeis a highlight real. That's what he's going to do (get 10-15 carries, bust a huge run or two and get 2 -3 yds the rest of the time). Everyone loves him because he's exciting to watch. Look at Michael Vick. Perfect example. My point is that there is no point in bashing Reggie Bush just because others are jocking him. That makes it sound like we're trying to make ourselves feel better about the pick.
Not that I care much but I figured I'd put this here, but anyway, I enjoyed reading these two somewhat....disparate....accounts of Bush and Young's performances from the AP this week ....wow, talk about a "qualified" success for Young, LOL; I bet they'll rail on Reggie Bush for gaining a measly 7 yards against "second- and third- stringers", right? ...man they really took it to the golden boy.
In all honesty they shouldn't be taking it to any of them. I think VY, Reggie, Cutler and Leinart have all showed why this was such a great draft at the top. That's not even mentioning Maroney and Williams who will probably both be starting at some point this season. I honestly see the potential in Mario (realize he is learning and laternating positions) but he has been the least impressive of this group. That's not bashing that's just the truth.
Honestly, if I'm Shannahan he's starting. He makes all the throws and has amazing pocket prescence and poise for a rookie. He looks more NFL ready then the other QB's. That being said, let's see what Leinart does with more practice time. VY put up a ton of multi purpose yds in his second game. All 3 look intriguing. I
I'll agree he has been the least impressive, but at the same time he has been double teamed basically since day 1. If he does the little things like draw double teams and cause the offensive line to worry about him a lot then that will allow us to pressure from other parts of the line and blitz a lot better.
I'm not satisfied with that honestly. If this draft turns out 3 franchise QB's and possibly 3 franchise RB's (maybe an O,I haven't seen or heard about D'Brick) then i expect Dwight Freeney. I'm sorry but the number 1 pick in the draft has to do more then the little things to justify that selection.
I'm not bashing Bush. I think he will be solid. I just want fair reporting. Don't slob his 7 yard performance then diss the performances of every other rookie. Just report how he did (4 rushes, 7 yards)...don't try to make the performance better than it actuall was. See Sam Fisher's post for an example of the disparity.
I refuse to agree that Mario Williams has been less impressive than Bush. One 44 yard run on a busted play does not make him more impressive than a guy who was able to bat down a pass, make a stop for a loss, and open up the defense for Peek to record two sacks.
after only the limited time of 2 preseason games, you sure give everyone alot more credit than they deserve except for Mario. you think Culter is looking like franchise QB, you give VY his props for a 2nd game in the 2nd half against 3rds stringers in which he barely completed just over half his passes, and we all know how you feel about Bush. yet, you discredited everything that Williams has shown in his 2nd game. like i've said before, a GREAT D-lineman, averages 1 sack/game. i don't think Williams has even played a half's game worth of snaps.
That's an issue with the media, not myself. I didn't see the reports others are talking about so I can't comment on them.
Call Bush's run a busted play all you want (it was) but he made something out of nothing. I give credit for that. How about giving Peek the credit for his two sacks. He's worked hard in the offseason and we've always seen his ability to rush the passer. A pass batted down is nice, as an NFL lineman you should make tackles.
Cutler has looked great. That's a fact. I've noted it's preseason but I'm talking about my opinion and what he's done. VY completed 11 of 19 passes for about 15 yds a completion and ran for a TD. That's pretty solid. Being a rookie QB is a lot tougher then the other positions. Bush is exactly what i'vesaid, a game breaker. I said I've seen Williams' potential but he hasn't done anything special. That's a fact. A tackle, a pass defended and I'm supposed to be excited? I hope Mario turns out to be great but I just pointed out the others looked better (and what I expect out of him as a #1 pick). I actually said other then VY I don'tt even know why we're talking about the others. So many people want to make themselves feel better about the pick IMO.
At the same time Peek is going to get a lot of his sacks and rushing the QB because Mario will be double teamed. Remember even Jevon Kearse had a great year but then the next as soon as they saw him as a presense they doubled him and the other side started making a lot of tackles. Same in Miami with Jason Taylor, they guy gets double teamed a lot of the time opening it up for all the other defenders to rush and blitz the quarterback.
I agree. Mario is already 3 (preseason) games into his career. He's already played 5 (preseason) quarters and he doesn't even have a fumble recovery for a touchdown. How much more time are you Mario lovers going to give him? Mario Williams is a bust.
Whatever dude. Being sarcastic is a waste in this debate. Nobodys being a smartass except yourself. In this debate all we have is what they've done so far. Everyone has agreed that it's only preseason.
This whole Bush-Young-Williams thing reminds me, did reggietodd ever get out of jail after draft night? If that story is indeed true it might be one of the funniest things associated with CF.net that I recall.
Texans should have traded down and taken D'Brick. You build your offense around the O-line, see Matthews and Munchak.
