DUDE. Who are you talking to? Everyone is in here talking about the Saints game and you are having a conversation with yourself about VY.
harrisment.. I was originally talking to Gucci when we were talking about how the media treats Bush compared to Vince, Mario, etc... but then it got confusing.. sorry I'm tired!
I'm still waiting to see Reggie Bush break a tackle. I've been watching his highlights for months and have yet to see one highlight with him actually breaking a tackle. Someone please post a clip of this so I'll stop yacking about this to my "we should have taken reggie bush" friends.
Wow, just saw it on espn. They really did break down everything about him.... talking about which foot he was on, etc... Vick .. Bush... I think will always be the types that get a lot of publicity... because they are thought of as exciting
Actually, I'd choose Mario Williams. Bush isn't a Kubiak style runner. Too much east/west, not enough north/south. I know this may come as a shock you you, but if you turn off ESPN for a few minutes and think for yourself about who will help the Texans more in the long run, you will find that it will be Mario. I'm willing to bet that the Texans gain more yardage on the ground this year than the Saints do. Any takers?
On a side note, did anyone else notice that the Texan broadcast team was still employing the ESPN Reggie Bush knob slob approach when speaking on David Carr.
I would absolutely agree with that, even with the uncertainty around Dominick Davis. On a side note, does anyone think that some of the ESPN overhype of Bush and slight underhype (in some eyes...I haven't really watched him) of Vince Young might be a direct result of the NC game and Vince Young basically making all of ESPN look like dumbasses with their "Best Team Ever" crap BEFORE the game even happened? It crossed my mind.
Exactly how I feel about him AND Vince. I like both of those kids (damn, I feel old calling them kids) and I hope they both do well because I'm actually pulling for the Saints (because of Katrina) and I like Vince Young. But... Another part of me wants them both to fail miserably just to shut up all the 2nd guessers. Sadly, this is the part of me that dominates the other part.
All you have to wish for is williams to do well. no one questions the rockets for taking hakeem over jordan. I really don't care how bush does either way, but I do want vince to succeed.
Maybe it's because I'm biased, but I just don't hear it from either the local fans or national media about Vince. All I hear is how stupid we were for passing on Bush.
True, but I think it's because Vince hasn't really done anything yet. Reggie had a long run against the titans (whoopee) that people are still talking about. Once Vince throws a TD or has a run over 30 yards, the talk will start right back up again.
Yeah, it's pretty crazy. Thing is, that's exactly what I would have wanted for us. Forcing ESPN/National Media to have to salivate over a Houston team would have put a big smile on my face. I think the odds are good that Bush will be a good player. So, hopefully, will Mario. But the spotlight, and the excitement of just watching knowing he's going to bust out a big play, were the kind of extras that I was hoping we wouldn't pass up on. Anyhow, it's a moot point now. But unless Bush bombs horribly, you guys should get ready to see this kind of thing for a long, long time.
Bush can put up Barry Sanders like numbers for his career... and if his team doesn't do any better than Sanders' teams did, the "hype" machine will slowly wither away. People don't realize that half the hype with Bush was that he was playing for the ultimate dynasty of all of college football in USC (which he was only part of the reason for). He was truly amazing by himself, but his play reached all-time high (in hype) levels due to the fact that USC was supposed to win their third straight national championship. Had he just been another heisman trophy winner (without the benefit of playing for LA's professional football team), the excitement would still be there... but it would be undoubtedly less. Also, Barry didn't get that much national attention unless he asked for it (by demanding trades, etc.)... Bush will still have to win in the NFL to get the ultimate glory.
Those of you hating on Bush/ESPN are in for a long long season. As long as he doesn't get hurt he is going to be super in the NFL. You can just see it if you take the blinders off. The cowboys D is awesome, they have some players on that team on defense. A couple of those guys ran Bush's ass down, I was impressed. I look for the cowboys to make a run at the title this year (unfortunately). Lets compare Bush to LT. He is faster than LT, cuts better, has just as good hands if not better, doesn't fumble (only once in his college career), and he is dedicated/has a great work ethic. LT is about 220lbs so he is a bit more of a power runner, so he has the advantage there, but Bush will be just as good as LT if not better; and LT is an MVP candidate year in and year out, not sure how you guys can't see that. I'll bump this mid-season and we can talk. Preseason doesn't mean a thing, but I, like espn, can see the flashes of brilliance that those with blinders won't allow themselves to see.
LT is an amazing established elite back in this league... and he has NEVER had the dedicated/broken down/analyzed minutae type of highlights that Reggie Bush had on ESPN sportscenter for a 7 yard performance in a pre-season game. I don't think people mind hearing about Reggie Bush if he's performing phenomenally... its that they over-reported/over-hyped a story when there was no story. Some people here may have blinders on... but if you honestly thought last night's performance was worthy of the attention given to it... then those are called Bush-colored glasses.
you mean like how they treat Yao? he's made ESPN look like a bunch of fools and they still refuse to give him credit.
Let's get something straight here: This is not Bush bashing; this is ESPN bashing. I just want SportsCenter to call a spade a spade and stop the bias. The NFL draft and talk of potential and delusions of grandeur are OVER. It's NFL season now. Time to report on what happened, not what might be.
