By the way, if Turkoglu could be had cheap, I think he would not be a bad pickup either...I just think he is not the best option, and he might be too expensive for what he offers. But I have seen him play many times, and I think he is pretty good...did not have a good year in San Antonio, though.
That's a good point, you can put Hudson on that list as well. The Rockets have a ton of options. They can take that deal they offered to Barry, and offer it to Arroyo or Hudson and see if it works. I'm still wary of that report, and I agree, Barry might be a fall back option for the Spurs, or a negotiating ploy for the Spurs against Ginobili.
If Barry doesn't really really want to play with McGrady and Yao, let him go. We have other options and should hold out for guys who will gladly accept their roles in a team organized around #1 and #11. I'm particularly uninterested in a bidding war for an aging player. We have our big lures in Yao and McGrady and should not waste our time and money on role players who don't find those lures particularly attractive. No swoons. Make the pitch, pounce if he goes for it, and move on if he doesn't.
Could be that Barry's agent spread the rumor that led to this article in order to squeeze out a few more dollars or more favorable clauses from the Rockets...
I agree Will. I think the core of our team speaks for itself. If we offer a fair contract, and the opportunity to start at PG for this team, if a player doesnt jump for it then we should move on. It is a great opportunity and if they cant see that, then we dont want them here.
Right on Will. Barry is not going to make or break this team. It would be nice to have him....hell it would be great to have him, but not at the expense of putting this team into a difficult financial position. The deal that is allegedly on the table should be a final offer. Take it or leave it.
It's getting silly. Barry is a very good player, but he's not a star, and he's not young anymore. Let the Spurs have him.
1) is Spurs offering more than $24/4 to Barry? That is not Spurs' style. 2) If Barry is gone, I rather have Fisher and hope he can get back his shooting touch.
If you think that's a statistically significant differential that will have pronounced future effects from year to year than go ahead, however guys who can hit in the low 40's from beyond three point line consistently are few and far between. Anyway, at the same price, I'd much rather have (how old is Turkoglu? 26 or so?) playing out the 4th year at 6m than a 37 year old Brent Barry. I did. I don't get the fascination or the willingness to pay relative truckloads of cash over many years to an aging player who doesn't bring that much to the table and really isn't even that good of a fit to begin with.
Utah would match the offer. See, it is not that easy to get even average guards in NBA... Many people thought NBA veterans would lineup to play with Yao/T-Mac.
Why do people think Arroyo is good? I mean, he just may be, but how can anyone possible claim to know how good he will / will not be outside of Utah. He's had one average year playing in what can only be described as a supremely above average system. I wouldn't put Arroyo near the top of my list. He'd be decent, but I'd almost prefer to have a Damon Jones type of player, who seems to do a better job taking care of the ball (no turnovers). Barry is still my top choice, but as mentioned by others here, you clearly don't get in a bidding war. Also, can someone explain to me where Barry's no defense rap comes from. He has consistently decent steal numbers, a height advantage on most other PG's his size and decent footwork. He's definitely not a great defender, but he's decent, and better than Francis was, or Arroyo seems to be.
So, Spurs want to resign Manu, court Kobe, and sign BB? Nice trick if they can pull it off. Barry will, of course, wait for SA to go thru all things with all others?
according to jamal crawford's agent the spurs are one of the eight teams interested in him... so you can add crawford to that list.
yeah, let's wait a year or two so T-Mac could ask to be traded. btw, Mobley makes much more than $3mil./yr (1/2 of $6mil. Barry's asking). 2 yr. later Cat'd ask $36mil.~$42mil. over 6 years.
This is a pretty terrible market in regards to PGs who can shoot 3s. Fisher's 3pt% isn't that great anymore. Arroyo and Hudson aren't great outside shooters. Eric Snow, Jamal Crawford, and just about any other possible players for trade can't spread the floor. If the Rockets don't sign Barry, who is going to spread the floor to make people pay doubling against Yao/T-Mac?
