eminem is overrated his first 2 albums were great, his 3rd was good, after that a whole bunch of hype
What does that have to do with anything? Em made a song calling black women the N word. Should we use that to count against him too? This isn't even an official ESPN poll, just one for some radio show they air. 2Pac is considered GOAT because of his complete body of work. He sold millions. He made party tracks, political tracks, positive, uplifting songs and talked about the struggle. He told stories. He made classic albums. Just because he didn't use a bunch of metaphors or fancy word play doesnt make him any less skilled. There's plenty of lyrical geniuses who shine on mixtapes but couldn't put together a studio album to save their lives. 2pac is the GOAT because he wasn't just confined to hip hop like most rappers. He didnt make his imprint on Hip Hop only. Pac went above all that. The interviews he did, what he had to say, he was ahead of his time. The global impact he had on the world and the imoact on hip hop alone, will never ever be matched by another rap artist. How can anyone question 2pac being the GOAT? When discussing the greatest, you have to look at the total package.
2pac was only considered the goat by a few when he was alive, he's great indeed but not of all time, the hype of him being the goat came more so after his death, that being said for the purpose of this thread pac > em
2pac was before my time, but IMO his overall stuff has been better. Eminem is really good as well, but in terms of his total body of work he can't compete with 2Pac. Mind you I haven't liked rap since my high school days so I guess I'm an objective judge in all of this. Having said that, there is nothing objective about picking a "better rapper", its all very subjective to one's own preferences and experiences. I think most people grew up with Eminem and he's obviously more relevant to the music scene these days, so people's opinions will be squewed towards his music. Eminem has also had far greater commercial appeal for obvious reasons and he's been hyped like no other.
there is no answer, ive had this discussion at least 100 times, my favorite rapper is scarface, but what i remember about rap and what will never be replicated is that everyone didnt hate on the next man, when nwa came out people were blown away by ice cube, when he left people were blown away by his solo work, and it was pretty unanimous that every album cube came out with until war and peace was a classic album, cube was loved in the underground and in the public view, that was the closest thing i ever seen to their being a goat, some will say ll cool j, some will say krs-1, some will say jay-z, but like i said at this point there will never be a goat just a fan favorite cause hatin on artists is part of the game especially with all the commercialism
When you say a rapper RIPS someone . . .what do you mean? As in that bull**** put downs and insult rapping crap because that is . . .wack But Tupac was the unique mix of Flow, lyrical content, and music That said. . . ICE CUBE still has probably the best Three Album set of all time Kill At Will is in there somewhere 1990: AmeriKKKa's Most Wanted 1991: Death Certificate 1992: The Predator Ice Cube is the #1 most underrate rapper of all time because he is probably in the top 3 rappers of all time Hell Top 2 . . him and Tupac for me There is no NWA without Ice Cube Rocket River " . . .can't fade the Cube!"
Why is 50 on this list.... He blows. I wish they would have put the individual members of NWA in it. Ice Cube is great, and Dr. Dre is my personal favorite.
eazy e didnt write his stuff that is well known, mc ren and cube wrote those albums, once cube left it was ren and d.o.c.
tupac was an educated art/drama student. the guy was a lyricist and created an image that caused a nationwide beef. eminem was great but he was no tupac.
Tupac Shakur Tupac topped Eminem in a dramatic championship matchup in the MC Bracket presented by "The Scott Van Pelt Show." Tupac 51% Eminem 49%
Actually, Scott Van Pelt and Ryen Russilo talk about this sh-t all day on their radio show and podcasts. Makes at least as much sense as the guys at Grantland doing their "The Wire" bracket. It's all in good fun, anyway.
If you listen to Pac's albums that doesn't translate into the majority of his songs though, like I said, more songs about money/b!tches than deep stuff. People overrate his lyrics a bit because they judge some singles(Change, etc.).
