Regardless, it will still be fun to watch them matchup. Are you assuming that Landry won't get better and just let Milsap continue to eat his lunch? One thing Landry has proven is that he doesn't quit.
Millsap's better than Landry cuz of the defense. And Boozer doing what's best for his family... = my family's alright, now what more can I get for ME?
I see your point. Kind of like when Artest played for the Kings, I hated to watch McGrady have to go against him, because Artest would generally eat his lunch too.
Boozer = Kmart II He's a system guy and will not be able to put up those numbers on any other team. Whoever decides to give him a max contract next year will regret it.
Might be a good business move by Boozer. Instead of becoming a free agent in 2010 when Bosh, Wade, Lebron and others are becoming FAs he comes out next season. I'm sure he's done the research, he probably knows the salary caps of all the teams and all the FAs coming to market and decided this is the best time to come out and test the market. The Jazz won't resign him, Milsap might not be as good as Boozer but he's up and coming and they can use that cap space to extend Milsap and Brewer.
milsap is doing great on my fantasy team this year i was able to pick him up as a FA a few weeks ago. as for milsap/landry i believe milsap is better but landry more athletic. either way milsap is pretty up great numbers and some of that has to be credited to deron williams. but i believe milsap would be a major contributer on any team in this league. landry would probably put up similar numbers offensively in that system but probably not on the boards.
He was good, in the sense that noone really projected him to be a capable NBA starter coming out of Duke (a bit undersized, unathletic). But noone ever expected him to blossom into an All-Star caliber power forward in Utah. He's a nice player, but alot of credit has to go to their system. He won't be able to put up the same production elsewhere, though he would be a good addition to any team at a reasonable price.
Millsap is definitely better than Landry. The Jazz are fortunate he will be ready to take over when Boozer leaves. Giving Boozer a max contract next summer would be a mistake for any team. I have a hunch his best seasons are behind him.
That's exactly what I was thinking. I don't think he's going to "get a raise" as he puts it though. Who is going to offer him more than 12 mil a year?
IIRC he didn't play much during the first two years because of injury. I think he had surgery on his knee or something.
In his 3rd year in Utah, 5th in the league, he made the big jump to 20ppg, up from around 16ppg. That's a pretty significant, sudden leap into All-Star territory, especially for a player who played 4 years of college ball. It seems more to me like he was continually getting more comfortable with their system rather than developing more as a player. Again - 4 year senior with developed NBA body. It should have been a red flag when Luis Scola basically played him to a draw in the playoffs last year. The Jazz will miss him alot, but more because they lose that depth of having two quality 4's, rather than due to any individual greatness of Boozer. The strength of that team has always been their depth. They come at you in waves of players they can plug into their system with the same results. I still think he would make the Heat a better team though.
I think the bigger reason was that Boozer lost a lot of weight at that time, and was also finally able to stay healthy. I remember that he went from 280 lbs to 250.
I don't see him getting a raise. I just don't. I see it more like a Ben Gordon type situation where the guy simply overvalues himself without taking into account the fact that the system and his teammates (Deron) make him look much better than he is. Don't get me wrong, Boozer has talent, but I don't think he'll get what he thinks he's worth.
