I expect the same thing. The reason we haven't heard the "official" word on this would be so they can arrange a press conference to announce the signing. Bonzi's agent would insist on it, and Bonzi certainly deserves it. He's going to be using this season to land the contract his last agent had him turn down, either from the Rocks, or another team, and it will be based on his performance this year. Just a win-win for the Rockets. A huge, unexpected win to land him, and another huge win because it'll be a contract year.

Damn, I'm pumped. How many times can I use HUGE in one post?? ;)

This is HUGE! Kudos to CD!

I went to bed late, woke my wife up and said, "Honey, we gotta celebrate... the Rocks landed Bonzi!" She sleepily replied, "Bonzi who?? Oh my! It's HUGE!!!"

True story. A great night! HUGE. :D

We dont need a big PF. Battier, JHO and Hayes can do a decent job. I can only think of just one player that Rox might have a problem at PF body size wise: Tim Duncan.

Rest of the PFs can be guarded by Battier and JHO.

The roster is set. We can win it all if all healthy now.

    Yao
    Battier
    Tmac
    Bonzi
    Alston

    Bench:
    Mutombo
    JHO/Hayes
    Snyder/Novak
    Span/JAcobsen/Head
    Sura/JL3

Bowen and Azubuike will prolly be released. Starting 5 could have with 3-point problem, if so then just add Novak, Jacobsen, Span and Head to the mix. Man im excited for the season to start.

I agree, JHo as backup five/four to Yao more than a starting PF, and Deke to spot relieve when extra defense is needed. This Deke will see more relief until we really need him in the playoffs.

Unless a nice trade comes around :D

God I hope we don't have Battier or Wells coming off the bench just so Juwan can start...

I have no clue where my previous response went in the midst of the Bonzi Bonanza, but I'd just like to say:

    In your f'in face Mike James/Portland Trailblazers/Brandon Roy/Rudy Gay/Stromile Swift!!!!

whoooooo!!! Someone send Bonzi a link to this thread.

God help us if that happens. Some of us might have coronaries. Howard comes off the bench, Battier and Bonzi will start, IMO.

JVG has a team he can work with. No more excuses ROX. Bonzi was a great addition to this team. We will come out on top of the SW division this year. With the ROX finally contending for the title, I do expect JVG to get a new contract after this season.

Depth just went went from being a huge weakness for us, to being a strength. I think this team is really geared to play half court power (in other words playoff) basketball. Yet they are flexible enough to play small and surround Yao with shooters when needed. I think my Rudy Gay hangover is finally worn off let's see some damn preseason already.

I don't think we have to worry too desperately about Wells' behavior after he just excelled on a team featuring RON ARTEST. I'm pretty sure Bonzi can get along with our milk-drinking lineup.

Maybe we can trade for Stoudamire (Damon not, Amare) and Cliff Robinson and get the all-bong-team. They would probably have a pretty hard time finding herbs in H-town. :p

I just read that wells opted to go for the smaller contract. I think its good if it works out, but I have one question. Can he opt out of the second year and still get an offer to get paid more by the rockets in the same offseason. im thinking to far ahead, i know.

That is funny because all you had brought up before were shot attempts. Also, if you look over his career when he gets 30 miutes he averages in the high 2's or low 3's. That is not outstanding but it is fine for a shooting guard, especially when surrounded by Alston, McGrady, Battier, etc, who are all good at sharing.

I also know that just because two guys are friends does not mean it will be a winning team. You, however, were talking about TMac and Bonzi playing together. All you mentioned were shot attempts. I pointed out Bonzi does not shoot much. So they will not clash in that area. The point about them being friends was to suggest that they will at least start from a positive framework. Friends are usually more willing to work together.

Further, look at their games. Bonzi is a slasher/finisher and is one of the best back-to-the-basket guards in the league. He has limited range and limited desire to shoot from long range. McGrady is mostly a perimeter player who goes to the hole when his physical confidence is up. Right now he and Bonzi are really the only two slashers who will be looking to score (Snyder in more limited minutes maybe and perhaps VSpan in very limited minutes) so it is not as if they are crowded there. Actually, the last time there were two slashing threats were was when the Rockets did the best (TMac and Sura).

So now he is not a high assist guy...well, that is fine because TMac is...additionally, since Bonzi does not jack up shots left and right it is not as if he is a complete ball hog. His limited assists suggests that he is not a creator for other people, not that he doesn't pass and only sees a green light every time down the court. He shoots a good percentage for a guard overall so he is an efficient (but not prolific) scorer.

So I do not see why you are so doubtful they will work on the floor together. Obviously one can never predict how a team will gel, but you have repeatedly suggested that they wont without providing any good reasons.

I like this and this should help the team...Having the one year option should help him have a career year...

    Go Rockets!!
