And his point was that 15-0 should be part of the best ever starts - without it they listed the "best" starts; note JLB's post: What's going on with ESPN?
http://www.nba.com/features/clickandroll.html Well, at least the Dallas Morning News got it right: Yee-haw! Everyone's talking about the Mavericks' hotter than a habeñero start. At 10-0, the Mavs are five wins short of tying the 1993-94 Houston Rockets' and the 1948-49 Washington Capitols' (coached by one Red Auerbach) NBA record of 15 wins without a loss to open the season. (Dallas Morning News) And here are the best starts: http://www.nba.com/features/AllTime_Best_Starts.html
if it makes y'all feel any better the nba2night also said the record was 15, although they didn't mention either team that set it. on pti, they were saying would the mavs lose or grizzlies win first and they said the first chance for the mavs to lose is next week and they predicted the pistons to do it on the 27th so i guess that will give y'all something to complain about. they also had who will be the first to 4 rings, the lakers or j-lo. classic.
What exactly is everyone whining about again? http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=221119006 Remaining the only unbeaten team in the NBA, Dallas tied the sixth-best start in league history. The Mavericks will try to keep climbing the chart with home games Thursday against Houston and Saturday against Seattle. The record is 15-0 by the Rockets in 1993-94 and Washington in 1948-49.
Well seeing how only 8,000 fans bothered to show up for the Rockets-Cavs game last night, is it any wonder that the national media never pays attention to Houston? ESPN is a buisness and ratings bring $$$. Houston shows no interest in attending Rocket games (unless the Lakers are in town) so why should ESPN waste time talking about the Rockets when their hometown isn't even interested in them?
I agree with loverman, once we beat them on Thur night, there will be no more talk about setting the record.
On the midnight SC (MT) they did away with the "Best start in the last 15 years" graphic, replaced it with a Mavs margin of victory graphic, and only said that the record was 15 without naming the Rockets. No Rockets love from ESPN.
I hate to say it but if the Rockets weren't on TV every game than maybe more fans would come out. I think the larger problem is so many businesses have season tickets and only use them for clients and most often when the Lakers are here or when we are winning and causing a buzz in the community. Our Sales group does the same thing here were I work. The Rockets need to have a program setup so that when these season tickets are not going to be used they could be given to kids or something of that nature. I don’t think the Rockets care because no matter if the season ticket holders show up or not the Rockets still get their money. When the team shows it can win on a consistent basis the fans will show up.
Why do you care about "respect" or "love" from ESPN? Let our team win some more games and you will see some good press. Besides, they appear to love Stevie and Yao this year.
Its a freakin conspiracy against H-town. Now NBA.com has added to the insult from ESPN. Here is an exert from a game recap written about the Mavs fast start: Dallas is the 10th team to start a season 11-0 and off to the best start since the Chicago Bulls opened the 1996-97 campaign with 12 straight victories. Uhhhhh!!!!! 93-94 Rockets? Ring a bell! Need to use a lifeline, poll the audience, phone a friend!!! Besides, who cares about how they start, It should be about how the finish. Just ask the 2001 Seattle Mariners, who had the best record in baseball history and then had to hear the deafing chants of "over-rated" from the New York faithfull as they lost to the Yanks. In fact I think I am beginning to hear them again. Get ready lil' D. Your about to become Choke City, cuz there's only room for one Clutch City in this state!!!
You know, I heard that too, but they followed it up by stating that the Washington Capitols & Houston Rockets hold the record with 15, totally contradicting themselves. I guess they were half right.
You will notice it says "since" the bulls.. that means they have the best start *since* 96-97... the Rox fantastic start was in 93-94...yes? technically they are correct.. carry on
that's true but 93-94 isn't a decade away from 96-97. Oh well, I guess the New York media is still mad at Houston for the Rockets takin there championship away from them in 93-94. ESPN is based in the NY tri-state metro area. I guess they dont want to remember that season like I dont want to either, me being from Queens and living in Houston now. I still hear about it all the time. Adn know you guys are good again while Layden, our GM, has brought all of his Utah cronies to tha Knicks (i.e. Shandon, Eisley...) and now we suck. Who's he gonna bring next, Stockton, Malone, Hornecek's retired jresey, there freakin furry mascot and his stupid bike..... Ahhh I am sorry to rant, it just sucks!!!
Rimmy- I started a thread on this same exact thing last night at the same exact time, but I guess yours won out. Mine is completely deleted from the board, like it never happened??? anyways... the graphic that they showed definitly was supposed to be the best starts in the last 15 years. And at the top of the list there was no Rockets 15-0 to be found. I don't care what the ESPN website says, I don't care what some other media services report, the fact is more people out there watch ESPN sportscenter than check the website. It is either very sloppy of them to leave off the best start in the last 15 years (not to mention ever) or they purposely hate on the Rockets. Maybe if they start getting a little "love" from the national media, it will carry over into the local media and local fair weather fans. Face it, if you are on this BBS (posting or lurking) and not a troll, the you are a die-hard. We need some excitement stirred up outside of the BBS to fill the Summit/Laptop.
JLB and BobFinn, 8000 fans for the last game is pitiful, yes (only the die-hard fans showed up). But it has to do with two factors: One, the Rockets haven't proved they are a playoff team yet. And two, we were playing the Cavs.
