It's voting into a club where half of the qualifiers are based on voter subjectivity. Might as well ask children for proof of reasoning when the decision to not allow girls in the treehouse was made.
I'm going to be there when Biggio is inducted... being at his 3000 hit game is one of the high lights of my life. Dude was a machine. I love Bagwell, but he simply doesn't have the offensive numbers to get in with the juiced era stigma. Biggio gets in because of 3000 hits, doubles and hit by pitches and the fact he was an All-Star at catcher and second.
I agree with his ranking in the top 100 list, but he doesn't hold any coveted records or milestones needed to get in as a power hitter during the steroid era. Just too many questions. I think they both deserve it, but I don't think it is going to happen. Without 3000 hits, I'm not sure Biggio even gets in.
Huh? Not sure how this makes sense. "Without that great career hitting the ball, I'm not sure Craig gets into the Hall of Fame."
yeah--the only thing he might be saying that would make it be a legit argument is "if he only made it to 2990 and still basically had the same career, he wouldn't make it in because he didn't hit the magic #" Which I don't agree with.. I think he'd still make it in
Biggio is no 15 in the MLB in runs scored. Ever player in the top 30 who hasn't been banned or not yet eligible is in the HOF. He no 5 in double. All players in top 5 in doubles except rose are in the HOF.
Good to see Biggio on a list like this, but Paul Waner at 91 is a travesty. He should be much higher.
One needs to view Biggio's offensive numbers from the perspective that he was a lead hitter and a second baseman. How many lead off hitters or second basemen had Biggio's total bases, homers, double or hits? Each list would be very short and would include HoF greats. Biggio is a first ballot HoFer. Baseball writers who do not recognize this do not know the sport.
3000 hits is a milestone that generally means a "lock" for the Hall of Fame, like 500 home runs USED to be. Had he not hit 3000 he wouldn't have gotten in, at least not on the first few ballots. HoF voters have shown in recent years that they aren't going to be overwhelming voting in people from the steroids era. I KNOW Biggio deserves to get in based on his numbers. But HoF voters love the magical numbers, 3000 hits, 300 wins, etc.
Craig Biggio is NOT a HOF'er. His ONLY accomplishment is collecting 3,000 hits. The ONLY reason he was able to collect 3,000 hits is because he played 20 years. I know this to be true because Colin Cowherd told me so.
It is a wonder more guys just don't play 20 years so they can get to the HOF (Biggio really played 19, discounting the 50 games he played after getting called up in 1988). I guess these guys aren't on TV/radio for their expertise, just their opinions.
As said earlier, anyone who knows anything about baseball knows he is a first ballot HoF. 3000 hits (21st), 1100 RBIs (162nd), 400 stolen bases (64th), 660 doubles (5th), 4700 total bases (33rd), 1800 runs scored (15th), 280 hit by pitches (2nd) and on and on... (numbers rounded)
Nice Biggio is getting the recognition he deserves, though he ranks much higher in my book. I might be biased. Yes, I find myself once again trying to figure out how to ignore someone here.
Until I read this last line that I bolded, you had me scared. Biggio is one of the all time greats and should definitely get in the HOF.
