Patience is a virtue, my young padawan....give it some time, he's the perfect type of big we need, can spot up and shoot the 3, plays pretty decent D (learn more from shane perhaps?), runs like a bat out of hell...Adelman will put him to good use...

Agreed, lowballing Gortat was insulting and stupid. He had MLE written all over him. We just threw a 30 million dollar contract at a position that is relatively easy to fill in the NBA while blowing a great opportunity to acquire a quality big man.

Do we really need to use the MLE for Ariza?

Since Artest signed with LA, can't we get everyone together and just call this one a sign and trade, the salaries match for next year, is this double sign and trade actually possible?

If we can get this done with LA, we can save our MLE for Wafer or someone else and LA can use some of their MLE for Shannon Brown or whoever. It just seems like a mutually beneficially deal for both teams that won't hurt Artest or Ariza.

Hilarious. Almost forgot about that experiment. Don't quite agree though.

LOL, I love how people keep expressing their displeasure with the deal because there is no big man involved.

Last I checked, season isn't starting tomorrow, no big men have even committed yet (possibly Gortat), and no trade deadline has passed. Do you expect the Rockets and every other NBA team to not make any moves for their team unless it addresses all their needs at once.

For instance, don't sign Ariza until we trade for a big man or sign a big man that way it can all happen at once? Just ridiculous....stop citing still no big man like this Ariza deal someone seals off any chance at getting another center.

    Common sense.

Ariza was a impact player for the Lakers, lets not act like he wasn't.

He made several...SEVERAL key steals and didn't buck under pressure. He also showed his offense isn't bad in that he can actually occasionally go to the rim, something Shane does twice a season.

I'm not saying I prefer him over Shane, but for a rebuilding team this is a good signing. No we don't have a Center, but give it time.

If the Rockets did a sign and trade of Artest for Ariza, would they still have had their MLE available to bring in Gortat? Now, all we get is Ariza with the MLE, and there's no other money left to bring in anyone else in free agency.

So it looks like Morey decided to go young. He could have offered Ron the same contract but Morey sees Ariza as a building block for the future.

oh darn, just when the bbs was just about to burn down in its last flames with artest teasing everyone with his insane twittering.

oh wait....what was that i see in one of the hottest summers of houston?

    a pool?

splash?! (like an amateur diver at the olympics <-not really)

hopefully it won't end as a mirage

morey's on the move and he's not done yet

(really need something of a serviceable center or next year will be the quickest, scrappiest rockets team we'll ever see in a long while)

Oh yeah - Stern would be all for that!

"No problems guys - since you both used your MLE's to sign players we can certainly just arrange a S&T"....

    I don't think you can do a S&T for a S&T either.

Well nothing is signed yet. Remember when Grant Hill signed with Orlando, they ended up doing the deal as a sign and trade to accommodate him.

From the Lakers and Rockets front office's standpoint it would make perfect sense to do a sign and trade because it'll save the MLE. (The Lakers might not use their MLE anyway but you never know when it'll come in handy)

But from Ron and Ariza's perspective, I could see them wanting more money to agree to a sign and trade. So who knows if the teams can make it work.

Artest was a glorified shooter. Ariza can hit the three when he is confident, gives us energy on the defensive end and attacks the rim.

If we can get Yao and Tracy healthy, we still may be a chance to win it all.

LOL, what exactly qualifies Gortat as a "quality" big man? Missing Gortat will be the best thing that ever happened for us.

Ariza is young, extremely athletic, a plus defender, is a solid shooter, and was a key contributor on a championship team. Players like that don't grow on trees...

And you know this is NOT Morey's only move. Just wait until he brings in Chris Bosh... then lets see you haters.
