Alright its the free agent siging period so lets see what happens from here...Ariza is only the start I think the ball will move alot faster now!

If he's really that into "PLAYING TIME", he'd have committed to Rockets before Artest committed to Lakers.
He's not going to get more money from Rox, he's not going to get more play time elsewhere, WTF did he wait?
He just thought he could get more money from Lakers, and once Artest signed, Lakers didn't need him at all. What would you do at that point? Go for the only concrete offer at hand, it's not surprising he committed to Rox right after that, not even weighting other options.

I don't think "family" was factored in by him too much in his decision. Hometown vs the opportunity to play 35 mins vs 15 mins??? I know which one I'd choose thats for sure! Ron Artest signing only made it that much worse in his goal to be a bigger part of the team. LA was simply wayyy too limited in what role he could feature in THAT team and he wanted to MAKE HIS NAME in a team he could be part of the big key players!

Apparently he and his agent was trying to get something like 8-9 million out of the Lakers. Mitch Kupchak told them they weren't going to offer that and told them to go out on the market to find a deal and come back. The Lakers realistically were never prepared to pay 8-9 millon for him, and so weren't eager to match offers. Ok we know that Ariza had AT LEAST 2 contracts at hand, but Chad Ford said there were about 5 teams having serious interest in him. We know that at least LA, Houston and Cleveland were offering the full MLE, and apparently its been said that he had offers higher than the MLE from teams with capspace(Portland/Toronto/Sacramento?). We know that Portland make a late bid for him before he agreed to sign with the Rockets.

Ok I know the signing of Artest damaged the chances of Ariza staying with the team. But Ariza apparently wasn't too excited about signing with the Lakers in the first place anyways. You're saying he really wanted to stay in LA, based on what reliable source??? Yes, family is a big pull but a much bigger pull is the opportunity to launch a big career.

I don't think it was all damage control. Ariza and his agent had their options. They had many choices on destinations.

Why did he want to leave the Lakers? I've explained it in my previous post which you quoted in your post.

Ok I know family would've been a factor which he had to consider...but to say him signing in Houston and leaving LA only because of "damage control and to save as much face/money as possible" could not be more wrong(in my opinion ofc). He could have easily gone to the Cavs and we know the Cavs were desperate for him with LeBron personally courting him. You'd think he would choose the Cavs over the Rockets if you were a NBA player right now right??? He wanted to come to Houston FOR A REASON, and I think I explained that in my previous post. He could have easily gotten a ring with LeBron yet he chooses to come to a team heading nowhere in Houston. Even with strong persuasions from LEBRON(and you know how much he means to NBA guys) and the lure of a championship ring he chose us. That says something.

At the end of the day I think leaving LA was his CHOICE, not a matter of Lakers dumping him.

Kinda like how Artest wasn't really into winning until the Rockets refused to pay him, right? You got your player. We got ours. Be happy with it and stop trying to read so much into who said what....because at the end of the day no one will know the truth except for the parties involved.

Ariza's introductory presser is at 3 pm today per Jason and they are going to get it up on Rockets.com asap. He's also going to try and get a 1 on 1 interview as well, but can't promise it.

Edit: Scratch that... 1 on 1 confirmed, if you have questions send them to jason.

Every team (except the Fakers) goes through long slumps. Our "slump" was actually a lot better than the one some team's go through. Just because we've had a bad few years doesn't mean we're going to continue down that path...

I'm a little worried, Artest has already been signed and has a press conference set up and you can even buy his new jersey number 37. Why isn't Ariza's name anywhere to be seen on the Rockets page and why is there nothing on him signing with us today????

No worries, press conference setup for 3 pm...Artest thing is for show most free agents who agreed verbally haven't "SIGNED" yet.

oh really? wow cos just a couple of days ago I heard on lakersground.net that hes chosen no.98...must be because of Artest's volatile mind...

wonder what 37 is supposed to mean...S for 3 and 7 for T??? He's saying he was to be 3igned and 7raded? or 37aples?

In my opinion its not long enough...we're getting a very good deal here cos we have all of Ariza's prime athletic years...
