Have you guys listened to the guys on 790 am radio. They are actively trying to convince Ariza to sign with the Cavs. They basically question Ariza, falling short of calling him stupid. And saying they don't want him because he's choosing to come to the Rockets for the same deal that Cleveland is offering; however Cleveland gives him a chance to win a championship. Geesh and they are doing it on the premise that they are trying to prepare the Houston Rockets for the disappointment. What a bunch of Screwballs....

Absolutely the worst sports radio host out there!!!!

Seriously if Ariza were to back out of his agreement with the Rockets, everyone just moves on... What are we a bunch of love sick girls who need to be protected?

But really, those guys really sound like they are reaching for some controversey.

The "opportunity to improve", is the NUMBER ONE reason why he chose Houston over LA and Cleveland.

You're saying he was FORCED out by the Lakers. That couldn't be more wrong.

I don't think "family" was factored in by him too much in his decision. Hometown vs the opportunity to play 35 mins vs 15 mins??? I know which one I'd choose thats for sure! Ron Artest signing only made it that much worse in his goal to be a bigger part of the team. LA was simply wayyy too limited in what role he could feature in THAT team and he wanted to MAKE HIS NAME in a team he could be part of the big key players!

Apparently he and his agent was trying to get something like 8-9 million out of the Lakers. Mitch Kupchak told them they weren't going to offer that and told them to go out on the market to find a deal and come back. The Lakers realistically were never prepared to pay 8-9 millon for him, and so weren't eager to match offers. Ok we know that Ariza had AT LEAST 2 contracts at hand, but Chad Ford said there were about 5 teams having serious interest in him. We know that at least LA, Houston and Cleveland were offering the full MLE, and apparently its been said that he had offers higher than the MLE from teams with capspace(Portland/Toronto/Sacramento?). We know that Portland make a late bid for him before he agreed to sign with the Rockets.

Ok I know the signing of Artest damaged the chances of Ariza staying with the team. But Ariza apparently wasn't too excited about signing with the Lakers in the first place anyways. You're saying he really wanted to stay in LA, based on what reliable source??? Yes, family is a big pull but a much bigger pull is the opportunity to launch a big career.

I don't think it was all damage control. Ariza and his agent had their options. They had many choices on destinations.

Why did he want to leave the Lakers? I've explained it in my previous post which you quoted in your post.

Ok I know family would've been a factor which he had to consider...but to say him signing in Houston and leaving LA only because of "damage control and to save as much face/money as possible" could not be more wrong(in my opinion ofc). He could have easily gone to the Cavs and we know the Cavs were desperate for him with LeBron personally courting him. You'd think he would choose the Cavs over the Rockets if you were a NBA player right now right??? He wanted to come to Houston FOR A REASON, and I think I explained that in my previous post. He could have easily gotten a ring with LeBron yet he chooses to come to a team heading nowhere in Houston. Even with strong persuasions from LEBRON(and you know how much he means to NBA guys) and the lure of a championship ring he chose us. That says something.

At the end of the day I think leaving LA was his CHOICE, not a matter of Lakers dumping him.

Trevor WANTED to come to Houston Rockets!

lopez is so ******* disingenuous on air i dont know how anyone takes him seriously. he doesn't even attempt to mask the fact that he is fishing for comments... that's the biggest reason why i despise him - he doesn't even try to interject any objective thought, he just tries to get a rile out of his listeners. that takes about as much journalistic talent as an 8 year old.

790 is so terrible. I don't even think any of those guys are Rockets fans.

I'm curious why Lebron isn't calling Von Wafer about signing with the Cavs. He'd be a great fit as someone who can come off the bench and score without the need to play that pesky defense.

It's clear Von is the superior player, why aren't the Cavs throwing the full MLE at him? He's worth more sure, but he just might take the chance to play for a championship at a discount price...

Oh, haha......has anyone ever said that Von is worth the MLE? No, he is a cheaper alternative.

My only hang up about Ariza is that it takes us out of being able to offer a full Max offer in 2010.....nothing more than that.

Cheaper alternatives don't generally win championships. Save for the Pistons, recently, I can't think of any teams that didn't have stars.

You pay a premium price for the best of everything. Sure you can get almost as good for half the price, but that doesn't translate to winning.

Think of Hooter's calendar girls. Pretty smokin', but they work for tips, whereas a supermodel makes millions per year. Is there really that much of a difference?

Premium people command premium prices. That is their value. Ariza is valued higher because the market believes he's worth more than Von. All the attention should validate that. I really hope he doesn't renege on the signing.

I agree Ariza is worth more, but we already have Battier, I think we need a contrast at the Wing, a scorer, but all that is moot if we move Battier...

Still love your sig, especially since Morey said the same thing on the radio.

    WOOT !

HAHA I have been pushing this deal for weeks and I picked up steam when we got Ariza. Throw in Flopzilla or Webster for Outlaw that would be fine but it just makes to much sense not to explore. I have a Rudy Fernandez man crush so I want that darn Spaniard on our team!

I would have rather thrown the entire MLE at Gortat. because decent big men are more valuable than decent wings. Still, what's done is done. It's not the move I would have preferred, but it could be a lot worse.

Trevor Ariza made about the worst career move imaginable departing the Lakers for the same amount of money to descend into permanent mediocrity in Houston. Ariza one day will wind up detesting his misguided agent, David Lee. ...

    "Permanent mediocrity"??? GTFO.

Seriously, how can someone stay sane and still be a die hard enough fan to visit sites like these if that have that little faith?

Anyways, the Rockets are still in a MUCH MUCH MUCH better position than 90% of teams are when they have to rebuild. We have an excellent GM, we have a lot of great young pieces who have shown they can win even without our stars, we are in a position to be under the cap by next season, and one or both of our stars (however unlikely) still could potentially return to form for us. Normally, the only hope a lot of crappier teams have when they're in our position is to land a Lebron in the lottery... and that's the only hope they have for years, sometimes.

gotta tell it like it is.

what elso would call a team advancing past the first round of playoff for the first time in 12/13 years, facing the harsh reality of losing its #1 and #2 options for this coming season.

NBA_Rumors_NewsBreaking News! Trevor Ariza's peeps still say that Lebron told him he would stay in cleveland past 2010 even after lebron denies it.

War of words has began basically calling each other liars? This probably seals the deal!
