I was a bit neutral on this 5 minutes ago, but I just thought of how much this could help for 2010.

Young, long, athletic player + Big FA signing (Bosh :) ) + Healthy Yao and rest of squad

I like the sound of it. Ariza is still young and improving also.

This has to be setting up a deal involving Shane. Can't wait to see what happens in the on-going drama... As the Rockets Turn(over).

I'm not sure what exactly the Lakers thinking was. Maybe it was a numbers thing....we won't know for a little while. But I would much rather have Ariza than Artest....I really do like Artest as a person and I think the team liked what he brought. But Artest did not add much during the playoffs and I think most would agree it seemed like he hurt more than anything.

Ariza is younger, quicker, better around the rim and potentially just as good of a defender as Artest (Artest's defense isn't what it was 3 years ago....) plus he can actually fit into an offense. Artest has never once in his career truly fit inside of a fully functional offense.

I'm not sure what to make of his playoff hotstreak from 3 though.

This move will not work at all.

Ariza desperately needs his teammates to create WIDE open looks for him. One thing that I always cringed at when watching his game was his terribly slow release (part of the reason why no defenders can be anywhere near him when he shoots). He gets run out of threes more than anyone else in the league.

He needs to learn to create for himself, but his form won't allow him to do that.

I love this deal. Would much rather have Ariza over Artest any day. Though Ariza's stats may have benefitted from playing next to bryant, he is still very young and will get much better. This years playoffs made it clear to me that Artests best days are clearly over, from watching him guard some of the better 2 guards in the league. On top of that, artest is delusional about his own ability, and I'm glad i won't have to watch him jack up heart attack inducing horrendous shots anymore.

He doesn't have to come off the bench for Battier to mentor him.

    Time for rebuilding!

Now if we can just manage to get a young star, we will get a Center...just be patient. Morey isn't going to sign someone just to sign them.

I hope it's not for the full MLE because a little more than the full MLE and less than what we paid him last year is what it may have taken to get Ron. Now I'm not saying if we offered him the same deal the lakers did that he still wouldn't have left since the situation in LA is far better than Houston, but to lose Ron and gain Ariza for similar money is kind of not sitting well with me. I hope he has a breakout year.

good to hear...even though his game is similar to battier other then not being as good a 3pt shooter but he's much more athletic then shane to counter that. But definitely good news after hearing about Artest leaving.

We just got longer, younger, and better.

1st unit: AB, Ariza, Battier, Scola, Chuck.

2nd unit: KL, Taylor, Buddinger, Landry, Joey.

Extras: BB, White Flight, Cook, maybe some summer league promotions.

We won't have any ball-stoppers; we will have some guys who can run the floor.

If the Rockets are rebuilding, then we clearly got the better end of the deal in my opinion.

3 years from now Ron will be 33 and looking for one last big contract that will undoubtedly be worth more than his production will be over the next 3 or 4 years (up until age 37 or so).

On he other hand, 5 years from now Ariza will be 29, and we will have his Bird Rights and the ability to re-sign him no matter what. And more importantly, that second contract, should we give it to him, will be played out during his prime.
