i like his defense but we cant utilize him for threes like battier , hell be able to cut to the basket and fill the role mcgrady didnt do.
Trade Battier, Barry, Cook for another young player or 2 with upside now. Let's get young and athletic and push the ball a little while we rebuild.
I'm hoping you're joking. Paying a full MLE for someone to both backup Battier and cut into next summers' cap space in ridiculous. This better be the front end of independently moving both Grady and Battier + parts.
Good move. And one that probably couldn't be made if the team had thrown all their money at Gortat and he accepted, only for Orlando to match it in the coming weeks.
He's a bad three point shooter, so we lose something there. Hopefully his injury problems are out of the way. Like I said earlier, the grade for this move will depend entirely on what else they do. If they somehow add guys to this team such as Bosh/Rip or other young players like Rudy Fernandez or someone, this might not be a terrible move. In a vacuum though, I hate this. I just don't see what Ariza brings us that's anything overly valuable.
Who says Ariza will have to be a backup? I got him and Battier starting together. But yeah still plenty of time for other changes to happen.
Looks real. Report: Ariza Meeting With Rockets In Las Vegas HOUSTON (AP) ― A person close to the situation tells The Associated Press that the Houston Rockets are meeting with Los Angeles Lakers forward Trevor Ariza. The person, who did not want to be identified because the negotiations were ongoing, said Rockets general manager Daryl Morey was meeting with the free agent in Las Vegas. The meeting was first reported by KRIV-TV in Houston, which also said Coach Rick Adelman was meeting with Ariza. The AP source could not confirm that. David Lee, Ariza's agent, did not immediately return a phone message left by the AP. The 6-foot-8 Ariza averaged 8.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists for the Lakers last season, which ended with the NBA championship. http://cbs2.com/local/trevor.ariza.rockets.2.1069461.html
Yay, we swapped the Lakers basically... and we got the worse end of the deal. Ugh........ I don't really see much in Ariza... though he's at least better than Wafer IMO on both ends.
Hah... nice post and spot on. Fan rationalization at its best. For our current situation, Ariza > Artest, in my opinion. Or am I just doing what Lakers fans are doing?
He shots 48% on threes in 23 playoff games. His free throw shooting worries me more than his 3-point shooting. Ariza for MLE is a fair deal, in my opinion. He's young, athletic, he can defend, and he'll hit big shots. I actually think McGrady-Ariza-Battier would be a nice wing rotation, if T-Mac ever .... oh forget it.
