Remember over 10 yrs ago when David Robinson was injured so San Antonio tank the season, then they got Tim Duncan and start winning championship. Maybe we should do the same thing. If Yao recovers properly he still have some years left.
Bingo! Ariza is a good defender, but a poor shooter from 3, he can't hit free throws and can't create for himself or others. He scores on open looks and the double team on Kobe. That will not happen on this team. We know he is a good role player, but 6.5 mil for 5 years is a whole lot of money for a mediocre offensive player..... at the least Bowen and Posey can hit the 3.
Yes lets go ARIZA aRIZA WILL GE GOOD THIS SEASON MAYBE 15PPG 5-9 REB WE ALL KNOW HE CAN STEAL THE BALL
solid pick up, young player, solid 3 pointer shooter, can mix his offense inside outside. good addition to the team.
Ariza will be a newer, younger, quicker version of Battier. If Battier is staying... which I doubt, I hope he can instill some of that defensive IQ onto Ariza. I like this move.
not really, beltran was offered alot of money here and he used it to get more from ny. artest wanted to come back but once yao got hurt we decided to let him go. come on one year. but damn we got ARIZA BABY
Dude r u smoking joint right now, poor from 3 ?...shut ur mouth bro,,, he is one of the main reasons why LA won the championship.
Yup. Which makes it $6mil/yr for Artest and $6.5/yr for Ariza. I don't know why people keep saying $5.6/yr for Ariza. Fail math I guess. Not sure how I feel about this move.
We have to be realistic, there is hardly any chance of trading Tracy or having a healthy Yao back. DM knows we need to rebuild, but he also wants to acquire talent while keeping a eye on the 2010 FA market as well as the draft. I think it will take a number of years before we can become a true contender.
Yep but does the end justify the means? IMO it does. Tank and draft John Wall next year. Start making trades with the expiring T-mac/Cook/Barry and assets like Battier/AB. Need to pick up a player like Bosh. Battier/pieces to Portland for a Rudy/Outlaw combo would be great. If could end up a nucleus of something like: Wall/Lowry Rudy Fernandez Ariza/Outlaw Bosh/Scola Yao Not sure if can be done.
Maybe a Derick Rose. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/v4CbQGBbUOw&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/v4CbQGBbUOw&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Would someone with ESPN insider mind posting Hollinger's write up on the Artest-Ariza "trade": http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/insi...mnist=hollinger_john&page=artestlakers-090702
It's not about "giving up" on Battier. We know he's a good, smart player. But now we have another guy who is a really good defender and can hit the spot up three-pointer... except this one is getting better, while Battier is on his decline (kind of). Now I love Battier, and would love to keep him, but if we can end up trading him and Tracy's contract for somebody that can score, then I'm all for it.
Like others said, it all depends who we get to be our franchise players. Clearly the tmac/yao tandem didn't pan out to what we expected it to be. We basically got younger with this deal, an MLE contract for a versatile young athletic player in his early/mid 20's is moveable and should not be crippling to any future movement (if he turns out be a dud or not fitting to what Adelman wants).
