I'm torn. On the one hand, I believe fans have a responsibility to vote for the most deserving players. On the other hand, I want the current system to fail spectacularly so that the NBA recognizes how flawed fan voting is.
I think the system is fine, a minimum amount of games played though should be in the equation to get on the ballot. The game is meaningless anyways and coaches get to vote on the bench players. If the wanted to improve they could expand the roster to 15 players but I doubt that would happen.
Allen is just jealous he'll never get to start in an all star game, and with AI taking one of the spots, he's afraid he'll get left out and he should since he's in a down year anyways.
The NBA is thinking of this from an entertainment point. The more recognizable players out there, the more fans will tune in. But I do agree that the best players should get in
Fan voting needs to be part of the equation. Key word = part Make it add up to like a third of the final vote with coaches and the media determining the rest. I think the NFL does something like that, not sure. The NHL has the same AS voting system as the NBA and it was highly criticized last season as well when the starting lineup for the East was nearly all Montreal Canadiens.
I am waiting for the time when a Player is CUT and not piocked up. I mean. . . If AI got cut by philly . ..and still got the votes to be in the all Start Game THAT WOULD BE FAN-TASTIC! Rocket River . . . . then the Professor, hot soup and those other guys could play
Ya, who cares? Its not NBA first team or an Olympic squad. There aren't rules or stipulations on the ballot. It doesn't say vote for the best players. Fans can vote for whoever they want on an NBA team, they can write in Sean Marks, and if enough of them do it then its fine. As it should be. In this case "star" only means who the fans want to see and McGrady/Iverson is one hell of a interesting twist to an otherwise consistently boring game.
QUESTION: while this maybe an aside . . Do you think no one gives a isht about the NFL Pro-Bowl . . . because of Lack of Fan Voting? Do you think it would help? Rocket River
Come contract negotiations time. . . trust me. . . EVERYONE INVOLVED *EXCEPT* THE FANS . . .cares. Rocket River "I'm a three time all star!" "Well, that does not mean you are the best" "Yea, well it means I put BUTTS IN THE SEATS" "Ok, that might be true"
Then don't be a moron and sign a contract that gives you any incentives when you make the all star team. DD
Nobody cares about the actual game. It is the credit that comes with being an all-star that means something.
There is no reason not to have it entirely fan vote. Sure there should be better limitation, like T-mac only playing a hand full of 8 minute games, but I don't see any reason why Iverson shouldn't start. Who doesn't remember Magic's return from HIV? Probably the most memorable all star moment in any sports all star game. I'm fairly certain he already left the league that season. What if some "boo hoo my young small market not so popular deron williams" critic took prevented that?
Since the mid-70s. But with the internet and text message voting, and also with the NBA becoming more and more a commercial product, the voting process has been corrupted.
Voting doesnt bother me. The game itself is for purely entertainment purposes. (Last I checked it didn't determine HFA in the playoffs like baseball)
