Pardon my ignorance...but didn't you use to work with them? I was searching for sarcasm in your post but I just couldn't find any.
http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/barron/4035621.html Dukes making the move to KBME morning show By DAVID BARRON Copyright 2006 Houston Chronicle Carl Dukes will join Brad Davies as host of KBME's (790 AM) new morning talk program beginning next month, signaling a change of direction for station programmer Ken Charles and the impending demise of SportsBeat, Houston's longest-running sports show. Charles earlier took Dukes out of the running for the morning slot, saying he preferred to bring in new voices for a new show. However, he said, "After listening to all the different combinations, we felt at the end of the day that having a local voice as part of the show would help it grow more quickly. "We made the best choices we could, and time will tell how the audience will respond. I hope they respond to the show." Dukes currently hosts SportsBeat, which began in the 1970s on KTRH before migrating to KBME when it became an all-sports outlet. Charles said that when Dukes moves to the morning slot (7-10 a.m. weekdays) alongside Davies, who is coming from a station in Rochester, N.Y., KBME will turn the evening time slot over to ESPN Radio. "I'm a little brokenhearted about that," Dukes said. "A lot of great broadcasters have worked on SportsBeat, and it's been a privilege to carry the baton. "But I'm excited about the (morning) opportunity." Davies said Charles made the right call in picking a local voice as his partner. "It's a wise decision," he said. "Carl seems like an outgoing guy, and his philosophy and mine seem similar. Maybe I'll be the one who pokes fun, and he'll be the one who reacts. You can't tell how the show will set up until we get going."
Well the fact that they are putting Dukes on this program will spell doom from the beginning. He is absolutely horrible. He takes the sound effects to a new crappy level that even Vandermeer couldn't match.
The problem I have with Carl Dukes is he is incredibly boring. It's almost painful. Maybe having a running mate will help. He makes a lot of good points the very few times I listen but it seems like there is too much dead time when he's on the air. As a co-host he won't have to carry the show and that should be a better role for him. The "impending demise of SportsBeat" is a misnomer because the show was already dead. Maybe they will broadcast NBA games on ESPN Radio during the regular season.
Well, they just lost at least one listener. I was fully unimpressed by these guys ("Hey, I don't know if this has come up in Houston, but do you think Craig Biggio or Jeff Bagwell might go to the HOF?"), and am a big fan of Mike&Mike. Looks like I'm going pure XM now. Evan|not interested
