This was never about "winning". If it was about winning, he would have waited until next summer, been a free agent and then joined his buddies in Miami. It was about two things: 1.) Getting paid 2.) Geography
Exactly one of the main reasons I never wanted the guy, he is not about winning. He is about comfort and fame.... DD
Nuggets are stupid taking a big risk on Favors(bust) and going into rebuilding when they have like 10 other veteran players that are going to want get the **** outta there ASAP.
Well, you see, when you have a family, sometimes you have to sacrifice. He wants to put his wife in a good position for her career, while finding a comfortable place to live to raise his kids. After those two, he wants to be on a decent team where he can be the alpha dog. New Jersey and New York have considerably good futures as far as cap flexibility is concerned. Houston was also on his list, but seems to have fallen short, as not everyone views Houston as a contender, understandably so when you have Kevin Martin and Yao Ming, who are very likely to miss significant portions of the year...
Denver: I guess it's okay if they're getting Favors and future picks but why would they want AK47? New Jersey: Giving up Harris would leave a huge hole at the 1. Utah: Good for us Rockets fans cause they no longer have perimeter defense. Charlotte: Win. Devin Harris and Stephen Jackson backcourt can make them serious contenders and Tyrus Thomas moves into the starting lineup with Diaw gone. But I still don't see this trade going down...
So to put his wife in a good position for her career he puts himself in a worse position for his career. Yeah makes sense.
You can't be in a bad position when your making 20M+ a year and it won't be the first time a guy moves to please his wife. Melo might blink and go to the Nets to play in Brooklyn and rationalize it by saying the marketing opportunities for him are greater in NY along with the opportunities for his wife.
Can someone explain to me why the Nets would give Harris to Charlotte?? That's a steal for the Bobcats considering they moved Diaw...
Best part is the pick since Morey ****ed the Knicks so bad with the trade and they wont be getting Carmelo Lol thanks for your mind-reading speculation of Melo's brain in regards to what he's thinking. Obviously not everyone considers Houston a contender. There are 5 teams that people around the league believe in but man up and quit b****ing about your 2 main players and predicting bad things for them.
Short of a trade to the Rockets that is fair, this is about the best trade that Rockets fans can hope for. New Jersey stays neutral. Charlotte probably gets better. Utah doesn't get any better and may get worse. Denver certainly doesn't get better. Knicks definitely don't get better, and probably get worse relative to other East teams. I don't know the exact rules on retrading AK47, but I think he's a huge expiring this year, so maybe Denver is thinking they can retrade him before the deadline and pick up another young, cheap asset or draft pick from a team looking to shed a long-term bloated contract.
QFT - get me to NY and don't make me give up the max extension doing it. Houston was never really in it, maybe even Chicago was about leveraging a good enough deal (Favors) for Denver to pull the trigger. AK47 represents a $18M expiring deal. Massive savings for Denver after this year, and the possibility of flipping him in February for someone (doubtful). NJ: Moving Harris does leave them with scrap at the 1, but they really only need someone to bring up the ball, hand it to Melo, and set up for catch and shoot 3s. Farmar and Augustin are adequate for that. And they are switching out an inefficient poor man's Sam Cassell for a top 5 scorer. They'll be okay - the bigger fear for them should be Favors. Utah - they definitely downgrade some to save money. They're borderline awful at the swing positions. Bobcats: I don't know about "serious contenders," but this would help them make up for turning Okafor into Chandler into Dampier into literally nothing. They better pray Ty Thomas turns into a starting caliber PF, because their C position is pure garbage and the 4 isn't much better. That's big trouble in the East.
with all that money they are giving travis outlaw I wonder if they are moving outlaw to the 2. They may just playing a two 3 guard lineup like we did with shane and trevor last year.
I'm speaking for no one but myself here, but I'm fairly convinced AK47 isn't being used as an expiring. He'll fit in GREAT in Denver. Provided this goes through, I think there's (at least) one more minor deal for the Nugs that will go through. I'm thrilled right now.
