That wasn't a beat down - it was a sucker punch on someone who was trying to break up a fight (read "The Punch"). A beatdown is what would have happened if Calvin Murphy hadn't have been held back. Murph would have whipped his ASS. Just ask him.
It wasn't really a sucker punch. The guy heard someone coming in and instinctively turned around and threw a punch. It was very unfortunate, but it's not like Washington meant to hurt him, he was doing what he thought was best to protect himself in that situation.
