Agreed. Playing for country is a far higher honor. However, if he not 100%, plays in the WC and gets reinjured, it could put a serious dent in his career....(something about big men and leg injuries :( ).

I hope (think) Yao knows this. Its probably smarter to forgo the WC and wait for the Olympics

Well, I do believe Yao knows that. If he feels it is probably still too risky for him, I don't think he would start. I believe CNT is not that dumb too----to face the risk of losing the biggest BB star ever for such an event? If anything happens to Yao, 50% of the flame will go to Yao and the rest to CNT. Given the population of China and popularity of Yao, the voice will be HUGE. Anyone who could possibly face such a voice would double, triple check the risk to put Yao on court. Hence I don't think there is an issue of starting too early/too much. Take it easy.

who cares who is to blame... who is right who is wrong... who is trying to protect the CBA... who is trying to protect the NBA and the Rockets org....

bottom line is if the doctors say Yao is not ready to play or to play may risk more injury... then he shouldnt play...

if Yao re injures himself... then everyone is at risk

Team Yao... dosent make as much money....

CBA they don't get to flaunt their Chinese hero...

NBA will lose one of their best marketing tools

Rox lose a chance at winning a title..

the old saying "no pain no gain".... is wrong and dosent work...

    Easy,

You know, I trust your opinion (and michecon's) to cut through the bull about the Yao-only fan vs "anti-china troll" thing. You know...that stupid dynamic was one of several reasons why I stopped posting. So, I'm still amazed it still exists. ugh

Funny thing is is that I think China is the second best country in the world, next to Texas. And Yao Ming is my favorite player, now...ever since he got his toe fixed, and did what he could and wanted to do in the NBA. I don't have too many favorite players...I don't care about other sports...although what Vince Young showed us in the Rose Bowl makes me want to be a football again...but we didn't draft him, sigh.

Back to subject, I don't have too many NBA heroes. What? Baby Jesus, Barkley, and Hakeen. And maybe now Yao.

I don't understand the need for posts to say China and/or the Rockets are mishandling Yao. I think that is disrespect to Yao. He is a supreme athlete. I think at this point, he is doing what is best for his game and letting all the chips fall as they may. I think he is over this period of worry to satisfy governments and the Rockets to do something before his body is ready. The toe thing taught him a lesson that Hakeem learned...LISTEN TO YOUR BODY. first and foremost.

I do not think Yao will make the toe mistake twice.

sorry, if I went too far on the "anti-china troll" thing. OK? really. I just think Yao is the best. I don't like this bull media stuff about speculation of whether Yao is being "handled" properly. If he is, then that is Yao's fault for letting it happen. And I don't think he will. After letting his toe turn useless because he didn't want to tell Jones (arguably the most respected trainer in the NBA)....I don't think he will let this happen any more. He is too good, and now he knows it.

    pryuen,

I apologize. Easy is right. Your translation is great. I love it. I read it. I always check your posts. And the photos are great, too. And I've been a silent fan of your posts at ymm. I'm a season ticket holder and Yao Ming has been more than thrill to watch. Yao Ming has allowed me to make friends with other Rockets fans...Chinese fans. I could name several at ymm, and the first fan club who bought bulk tickets for the Chinese community here, and beyond...Chinese bbs's, etc. bittorrents...all that.

And I always liked your avatar at ymm.

if your are going to cross post, just don't stir the flames here. i would hope this site is past that. it's getting old. thing to remember...we all love Yao Ming. And lay off the font colors...it is dorky.

    Bottomline: I do miss windandsea.

But every basket fan in China knows it is not wise to condemn the association, or the consequence is bad..
I think this title right represents what Zhang whats to say, actually.
Maybe the affection of early starting is not easily seen right now, but who knows what happens in Yao's foot?
And I guess Yao himself should not stake his health since it's only warming-up games. Maybe Yao also knew this, yet he really wants to get better-prepared for the Worlds and the new season of Rox.
Anyway, I've just watch another game of China against Australia, and Yao seems better than I expected and got 21Pts & 10Boards. Wish it's good for Yao.

If Yao Wants to play, no doctors can stop him unless they drug him.

Pryuen spent a lot time for the stuff he contributed to this board. After reading him for awhile, I think pryuen could make a great politician that uses news and windandsea is a great news reporter. This society needs both types, lets put it that way.

In the "Official Thread on Yao Ming's Summer Activities 2006" thread, pryuen posted a translation of Anthony Falsone's clarification about the US doctors' recommendation - It turned out to be a false news.

    Forgot the link: pryuen's post

IIRC, the Spurs weren't paying David Robinson $15MM/yr while he was in the Navy. In fact, they weren't paying him anything.

I don't understand why a senior member like you needs to draw attention like this. Not enough confidence?
