sup123 I think the Cavs are probably looking for a sign and trade as you mentioned.

    Boston loves Walter McCarty.

but seriously though, there's only one game in town these days.

If I'm the Rockets I send either Howard or Taylor + Pike to Cleveland for a resigned Williams & either Newble or Wagner.
Then send Cleveland the TE and take Battie or Diop, which ever player they are willing to part with. Finally the Rockets go out and sign Mike James, and fill in the Center/PF with another veteran minimum player and your offseason is over. I'd be more than happy with this opening roster:

    Center: Yao Ming/DeSagna Diop
    PF: Juwan Howard/Clarence Weatherspoon
    SF: Jim Jackson/Eric Williams/Bostjan Nachbar
    SG: Tracy McGrady/DaJuan Wagner/Adrian Griffin
    PG: Mike James/Tyronne Lue/Reece Gaines

I'd opt for Diop/Wagner since both could grow with Yao and Tracy. I think Cleveland would think about it, but they'd probably offer Newble instead of Wagner.

I don't see how Eric Williams here makes sense. He is a good defensive player, but I'm considering JVG's comment over Boki and next season, stating it'll be Boki's make or break season.
Can't really judge on such expected results without logging more pt minutes.

Yes, Yes, Yes! I have been propping Williams a lot over the last few weeks as everyone I am sure is aware. :D

I really think he would be a GREAT fit on this team. He would be everything we wanted Adrian Griffin to be and then some. I like the thought of Williams and Tmac on the wings. That would REALLY improve our perimeter defense.

If we could work a sign and trade with Cleveland for let's say Pike, then that would be ideal.

I like Williams, but -- he doesn't address any needs I can see. If he were signed it would have to be because another trade was occurring. Of course, for example, if he signed for less than Pike/Griff combined and they were the SnT, then sure, he's an upgrade.

BTW - I expect Pike to be Pike (of every year but last year) wherever he plies his Pikehood next season.

A tall defender at the 3 who is capable of playing the "thinner" WC PF's. We don't have anyone who can effectively play both SF & PF.

Eric Williams is a very compitent player. I went to school in Boston, and watched him a lot. Talk about someone who hussles and plays his heart out. Besides, I'd rather see T-Mac moved to SF and have JJ and E Will solidify the SG position.

I think E Williams will be a better fit as a SF instead of SG. His 3 point shooting is poor but he is a strong defender and can score.

Au contraire,I think Eric Williams brings exactly what this team needs. He can play the 3/4 with an emphasis on defense and rebounding.Eric is a pro who would know his role...I hope we get him.

Intriguing... even with Newble instead of Wagner, I'd take it.

I couldnt agree more. Being from Boston, Ive watched more than my share of Celtics games over the past 10 years. Eric Williams is exactly what Houston needs. He brings veteran leadership, awesome defender and a hustle type of a player. He doesnt turn the ball over often and he's cheap on offense (meaning that he's very unsselfish). Williams only takes what is given to him. Not to mention his Post-Game is extremely undderrated. Eric Williams is a smaller version of Mo-T but with alot more heart, decent 3-point shooter and plays DEFENSE. It'll be awesome if we landed Williams.

Not to mention that when Danny Ainge took over as GM of the Celtics. He ended up trading coach's favorite player in Eric Williams. TRading Williams was one of the key parts of the resignation of Coach Obrien. Eric Williams was a fan favorite here in Boston.

You are absolutely right, Houston has become a favorite destination for free agents. The only problem is that you can't survive just on poluted Houston air and water from buyoys. Players need to get paid, and Cheap b*stard Alexander would not pay for talent. That's what it is.

Agreed! With his 6'8" size I would feel comfortable putting him on Dirk, Garnett, and guys like that that are thin PFs and not bangers. You could play Williams at PF against those guys. And then when you play teams like Phoenix that have a rugged SF in Marion Williams could play him at SF.

I like the fact that Williams can play defense against the toughest wing player as well. We know Tmac will be a super defensive player. But if you have Williams you dont have to have Tmac getting tired at the defensive end of the floor playing those guys, just stick Williams on them.

Granted the Rockets biggest needs are at PG and backup C. But getting Williams allows us to rest JJ more. Allows us to rest Tmac on Defense. It also gives as an 'energy' guy off the bench.

Would this reduce Nachbar's role? Probably. And I want Nachbar to succeed and get PT, but at the same time I feel Williams would really help out this team.

look, alexander doesn't owe you or anyone else a damn thing. this is america, correct? he owns the team like it or not, and though you may call him a cheap b*stard at least he's not a stupid b*stard like dolan, whose knicks are financially handcuffed for eternity.

How old is he? Was he a scrub on that Boston team?
Look like we are going cheap for the backup C and PG.
