I assume rockets try to resign on cheap deal, but he may be running for more money after old cheap owner hinted on a extension..

Trade this man to wherever he wants. He dedicated himself for 6 years. He deserves that.

Doesn't mean a trade is coming, necessarily. He needs a new contract, from someone. Could be the Rockets or someone else.

if he's willing to sign an extension for like 10-12 milion a year, i'm down for extending him 3 more years and just have him ride the pine all year so we can tank. he can just be practice/coach player. then retire him a rocket and have him join the coaching staff.

I would keep Eric Gordon and even offer him an extension.

He has the type of demeanor that will positively influence the younger guys. We are sporting a plethora of very young players, who in my opinion could stand to see the professionalism of a guy like Eric Gordon. When doing what’s best for the team is Eric Gordon’s gusto.

In years past I too was in favor of trading him for a first round pick. But if Eric is fine mentoring with his leadership the young Rockets, I am very much in favor of giving him a contract that Eric would be advocating for, even if it a little more than the Rockets might want.

The way I see it, by the time it’s time to pay the young stars, Eric will be ready to accept a smaller deal or retire.

Yup. If the options are this or another late-round pick, I'm definitely in favor of this scenario.

I acknowledge this isn't a perfect analogy, but after Lebron left Miami, the Heat kept Udonis Haslem despite him starting to regress to the point that his lost his starting position. The Heat are a well-run organization and know that rebuilding isn't just about talent acquisition, but also chemistry and talent development. Fans tend to not focus as much on the latter aspects, but chemistry and development are incredibly important to rebuilds, and guys like Gordon are invaluable in this regard.

Zac Lowe made a good point today w/r/t to the Lakers and all of the other win now teams -

    - with the Wembyamawakening, there's going to be more teams tanking than ever before, not becuase people finally discovered Wemby, but because fans and owners now know that he's worth tanking for.

That means a lot of teams are going to be selling off veterans early, which means Gordon is going to be offloaded into a buyers market.

Shoulda done it last year. Like we said. Stonetitta got too picky.

What makes you think he isn't ready to start?

It was three weeks ago that it was reported he wanted clarity in his situation alluding to a new contract.
He has earned that, either extend him or send him to a contender for whatever.

At this point just cut your loses and trade Eric Gordon. Signing him to an extension would be a massive mistake. He should have been moved when the rest of the MDA Rockets forced their way out.
