He is a quality NBA scorer, when he plays he is easily worth this money. However he gets hurt, always, like literally every year. Zero reason to think it won't happen moving forward. Hopefully they are smaller injuries. Still like the deal, don't love it though.
I absolutely love the signing of Gordon if he can play 70+ games a season. Not holding my breath. He's a terrific player if healthy and the contract is reasonable. The signing is everything the Anderson deal is not.
Interesting to see how many people like Gordon... Adding to the injury woes, I followed him pretty closely and the consesus (plus advanced stats) is that while Gordon may be a good shooter, he is terrible at anything else and actually a minus on offense (Bad defense as well, but everyone knows this). Yes, he will knock down open shots, but he's terrible at helping his team in other ways on offense, eg ball movement, setting picks, using space, etc, so in the end you actually get a negative offensive production when he's on the court. Hope he can thrive in a MDA system, but people here seem to only look at his shooting and forget about the other aspects of offense.
Good player. Obviously injury prone. I feel like Jared Dudley would've been a better fit. 3 and D type player that can guard 2's and 3's. Should've given him that offer instead of Gordon.

This is a very sharp post re: inflated trade value. I was thinking the D'Antoni signing was a Moreyball move just for this purpose.
Good signing for he can stay healthy . Rockets desperately needed someone who can create their own shot when harden is out of the game.

The photo with Eric Gordon holding up his jersey behind those flames signifies burning down our team and future with those bad awful signings of no defence injured chuckers. - malakas Hottake.
Thanks for the insight. I have a question though. How much of this "negative offensive production" is due to him being the primary scorer when Davis is resting. On a quick look at Davis's 2nd and 3rd years (when Gordon played 60+ games each yr), seems one of NOLA's highest minutes units is Gordon without Davis. It would make sense that any unit without Davis in those years would be a negative compared to when Davis is on the floor. Then NOLA has a bad year in Davis' 4th yr, because Gordon missed half the games. Couldn't we say that Gordon was directly tied to NOLA's success, by making it hard to double Davis, and when Davis sat, Gordon had to play with Asik, thus producing a negative, but moreso because of Asik, etc than Gordon himself.

In stark contrast to the Ryan (Bowen) Anderson signing, I am ridiculously happy with this deal as Eric Gordon is the right guy you want backing up Harden and playing alongside him in specific matchups. 4 at 53M are very reasonable, if you want a comparison 13.5M is like the 7M we were paying Ariza before...ie it's a steal for a starter caliber player. Obv it's a huge risk considering his injuries but at that price it's worth it imho
