http://www.voanews.com/content/us-erdogans-zionism-comments-particularly-offensive/1613181.html US: Erdogan's Zionism Comments 'Particularly Offensive' The United States is expressing its disapproval with the comments of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who this week said Zionism should be viewed as a crime against humanity. U.S. officials say Secretary of State John Kerry plans to personally raise the issue with Turkish officials during talks in Ankara on Friday. The officials, speaking anonymously, said the comments were "particularly offensive" and have a "corrosive effect" on relations. On Wednesday, Prime Minister Erdogan told a United Nations forum in Vienna that Islamophobia should be considered a crime against humanity, "just as with Zionism, anti-Semitism, and fascism." Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu blasted the comments as "dark and mendacious." A spokesperson for U.N. chief Ban Ki-moon called the statement unfortunate, hurtful and divisive. Once-close relations between Turkey and Israel have deteriorated since a deadly 2010 Israeli raid on a Turkish aid ship that was part of a flotilla trying to break Israel's blockade of Gaza. Nine Turks were killed in the raid. Israel says its forces acted in self-defense. ----------------------- Soooo... Erdogan calls "Zionism" a "crime against humanity", but he takes an award from the Islamist Saudi regime? http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5huNgE3DIjAYW-B8dTRzBwhjqexRQ Zionism is a "crime against humanity" and Islamism is just fine? glynch rejoices.
yea he's actually not wrong with what he said. Turkey used to be one of Israel's biggest allies, that says a lot.
I know... I was being sarcastic(bad attempt). Just showing how ATW is accusing Turkey's leader of being anti-semitic when the Turkish leader said himself it was wrong.
Because the same usual suspects respond in the same way they always do? Some of them are ignorant/lack intelligence, some are extremists themselves, and to some, both applies. Not surprising at all.
Zionism is not a crime against humanity. To say that it is, is to make the statement that Israel has no right to exist. That's taking a very large step from just criticizing the nation's flawed policies or being critical of the Occupation. The statement is designed to curry favor with his own religious base and his Arab neighbors. Zionism might be an artifact of the 19th century, but it's no more inherently wrong than any other kind of national aspiration, like...maybe Palestinian or Kurdish nationalism, which to my knowledge don't have special names
Let's keep in mind that those posters here who agree with Erdogan represent a fringe minority in the USA, on the leftist/Muslim radical end. A "left" US government has rightfully pointed out that Erdogan's comments are hateful and unacceptable. Those posters here who agree with them anyway are part of the fringe - or they are ignorant.
I think Erdogan's comments were stupid, but the sad thing is that they are distraction from a lot of the real issues in the region.
These Zionists immigrate en masse to an area, kick out the inhabitants of that area, steal the land, create their own government, and claim the right to exist and the right of self-defense. The whole thing is bull****. Zionism is a disgrace. Any other religious group trying to take large swaths of land to become an independent religious nation would be crushed internationally. You don't steal **** and have this magic right to murder people. It doesn't work that way. And soaking the Zionist issue with this political right to exist nonsense is crap. Thieves don't have a right to keep what they steal.
I know right lol. I wonder what it's like being so predictable and one dimensional. Surely a cardboard Colonel Sanders outside a KFC in the south is more spontaneous and has more personality .
Although Sharia is more violent, Zionism is an extremist ideology in the same vein. To say that one religion holds divine supremacy over another in a political sense is just as dangerous.
ATW likes to insinuate that arguing against the one equates to being sympathetic to the other which is nonsense. What is happening in Africa and in the Middle East with Muslim extremism is disgusting. What has happened with that land in Israel is no less a crime.
