Make sure you watch those movies if you liked the hobbit.

I watched the HFR there, but not the imax. There's fake imax, but I don't think fake 48fps

Actually, you're lucky. You're seeing things in order. The Hobbit was written by Tolkien for either his children, a grandchild, or on a whim, depending on what source you find, and is indeed a much "lighter" story than LOTR. I lean towards it being a whim, one he soon fell in love with. The novel was passed around by Tolkien to friends and he got very positive feedback, leading to publication. With a limited first run of 1500 hardcovers, illustrated by the author, reviews were excellent and he was encouraged to write more. Thus LOTR. Man, would I love to own one of those first editions of The Hobbit!

After a while, I guess a thread without spoilers discussing the film would be in order.

My wife and I loved it. Believe me, this is not always her sort of film. And she liked it better than I did. The images were awesome. The critics can toss my salad.

Surprised by how much they added to the movie versus the book.

saw it in 48fps, it made a HUGE difference. when you see a battle with hundreds of orcs on the screen, you can see all of them CLEARLY.

Just got home from seeing it again, this time with my S.O. and my daughter, after having seen it by myself Friday. It was just as good the second time around! I love the 3D HFR thingy. Having reread The Hobbit (for the 7th time, I think), just finishing it this past Wednesday, it was all fresh in my mind. There's a tremendous amount of material ahead of us, folks. Before I saw this flick, I couldn't see how a 3 movie Hobbit would work, but now I can. The next couple of films will be terrific!

No, Tinman, I saw it Friday at the Drafthouse on Slaughter at 2:40, and then today at the same theatre at 6:30pm with the two members of my family that are in town. Big screen, great sound, 3D/HFR and draft beer! I'll try the other venue when I have time to make the drive. The Slaughter Drafthouse is about 10 minutes from my house (and probably 5 minutes from DD's, lol!), and my family thinks I should be getting ready for Christmas, buying presents, putting up decorations and such. The very idea! ;-)-

This movie made me want to smoke some weed. It was a pro-legalizing weed movie.
That eagle can roll a blunt.

    7/10.

You must be high to enjoy the movie.

I'm one of those people that gets motion sickness by watching films like The Blair Witch, so I thought the 48fps would give me a headache like it supposedly did some critics. Nope. Beautiful movie. And I'm one of those people that doesn't normally go see 3D movies, cuz I think it's hardly ever done right and is mostly a money making gimmick (The Last Airbender). But the 3D combined with the high frame rate combined with the cinematography was gorgeous.

I was worried about this. I'll need to outsmoke any hypothetical bird before I try seeing this.
