http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/20...l_star/2005/07/11/rolen.ensberg.ap/index.html The cnnsi article lays it out pretty nicely as far as why Rolen backed off. Interesting to hear that TLR et al have been trying to convince him to use the time off. Anyway, all in all, good karma keeps coming the 'Stros way!
Oh so it's not Rolen backing out but La Russa persuadeing him to rest his shoulder. It doesn't matter anyways.
But according to the rule mentioned above, the replacement should have been Troy Glaus. I still think some rules are being bent here. Not that I'm complaining...
I believe the rule says that players selected by the player's vote, like Cesar Itzuris, who pull out of the game must be replaced by the next highest player in their position in the player vote. I don't believe that applies to fan voted, or manager chosen players. In that case, the manager can name a replacement. LaRussa kills two birds with one stone - he gets to correct the biggest snub on the NL side, and rest Rolen.
From what I heard from a very baseball savy fan, Laursa had to pick another player from the same position. I don't think the vote had anything to do with it, he just had to pick another SS. Lets cross our fingers and hope Kent decides to rest and Bidge gets in, that would be amazing
Awesome news for Ensberg. I wonder if he'll start. And if so, where will he hit? The NL lineup is actually pretty crappy with the likes of Beltran, Piazza, and Eckstein. Ensberg should at least be the #5 hitter there, provided Lee hits 3rd and Abreu hits 4th.
One good move countered by a questionable one... Cardinals RHP Chris Carpenter has been named the NL Starting Pitcher.
Justice has finally been served...There was no way he should have been left off...He may not play, but to get there is an honor and respectable...
Wow I am really happy for this years Astros All Stars. All four guys that had a case to make the All Star team made it.
There is a God! About freakin time Ensberg got on the all-star team. He can now receive his $50,000 for making the team right? That is good money when compared to his salary.
