Actually I think it started around the time Jay Williams found out that Yao can make free throws.

Wallace was Defensive Player of the Year 01/02. In 02/03 the view will change, as Wallace drops from the top of the charts, in Blocked Shots. The new King will be a Rox Player, just wait and see!The 6'9'' ( I don't believe it, he looks about 6'7''in the team photo)Ben Wallace will become a target of NBA Referees for his reputation as a dirty player.

I respect Ming for turning the other cheek and patiently waiting to prove himself, but you guys are the biggest cry babbie of all time. I was once worried about Yao's ability to adapt, but I think I'm even more concerned with how sensetive people in the BBS have become. NBA players talk trash all the time, the only reason we know what these guys are saying is because Yao is a high profile rookie. People in here are bashing Big Ben as being overrated when not long ago, plenty of people here wished that we could trade for him. As for journalists who say things like Yao is not a shot blocker, well this is america, and last time I checked, it was ok to have an opinion, whether it's wrong or right, you can have an opinion. Hell, there are still journalist who will try to convince you that Michael Jordan wasn't the greatest player of all time. That's still considered a viable and interesting discussion, so why is it wrong to not believe Yao will be the next great center? I've been trying to find the best way to describe the way you guys vehemently defend Yao from the slightest criticism and the best one I could come up with is that you guys worship Yao like some god and that anybody who disagrees with that is an infidel. You know, when people bashed Steve, I defended him, but I at least mentioned the good with the bad, like the fact the Steve is a pathetic passer. Just admit that Yao needs to hit the gym for him to be a force, come on, you can do it, "be part of something logical."

LOL. I think Jay needs to get ahold of the wannabe manual for speaking about yourself in the third person. Talking about meeting himself in the 1st person is just weird.

I'm adding another profile to the Ignorami list. Primarily because there was only one... well, Ignoramus there. I chose one of the "From what I have not seen, Ming = Shawn Bradley" columnists. What I love about this guy is that he says PS "Maybe three years from now Ming will be a monster..." Straight from the famous ass-covering files:

Hey Soybean Fanatic, "Sometimes I feel like you don't even know who I am!" (Sears commercial). Hey, I am up for some subtle humor, how about you? :) (I wasn't really serious, I too respect Ming's "professional" attitude, but maybe just one or two straight line punches, o.k.?)

No one is hatin' on Yao Ming. They are just sick of the hype. The guy has yet to play against NBA caliber competition and be successful and is is heralded as the next best thing since sliced bread. It happens to all high profile rookies.

    Infidel!! ;)
Nah, I can't speak for everyone but I started this thread as a tongue-in-cheek way of exposing hypocrisy, defending the 7th amendment, upholding the 10th commandment, and scouring the world of all the evil that is Anti-Yao sentiment. :p

Seriously, I don't have any real venom for these guys. In the face of massive hype and the unknown, they are entitled to say whatever they want. The real test is that once they see him - as a work-in-progress it will be mostly potential not results - are they willing to call it that way? Or will they be the true crybabies? "That ain't real, everything he got was luck." "Next time you hold him down, I'm going Vince Carter on his ass." I hope they will be bigger than that.

I'm gonna start holding my breath... now.

    San Francisco Chronicle's Scott Ostler

"One rumor is that Shaq has a big Yao doll in his driveway and he runs over it several times a day in his SUV, for practice. "

That Ostler article is actually pretty positive.
Looks like Yao is the real thing, Yao has makings of big-time talent

It looks like he's just reporting a rumor about Shaq, who I have no problem adding on to the list... although I'm not sure we'll ever be able to call this one in. :)

Seems to me that all the unwelcomed players in the league, including jordan, have taken the beating and used it as motivation to be great players. Maybe this is just what Yao needs to reach greatness.

That's exactly what I hope will happen.
In the meantime, there's nothing wrong with having a little fun and providing a convenient list for "How you like me Yao!" future reference. ;)

It's funny how everyone on this site tells me that I'm alone in thinking that Yao has no game. Actually, it seems everyone but the nerd and Asian population of Houston agrees with me.

The nerd and the Asian population?

I guess I'll be the nerd.

Just because Yao Ming has no street cred he has to put up with all this crap. Yep, guy's from China; he'll never be worth a damn.
