Yeah, Clutch told me the same thing. It was easy for me when I went to every game. But now, when I make the 1100 mile trek back into my STH seats, I just gotta watch and yell. Plus, I don't have the awesome scout seats anymore. I think I'm good for maybe 3 or 4 DD-Worthy GARM threads a year. Also, the overuse of "advanced analytics" in threads tends to require stats behind any GARM strat talks.
It's pretty sad when you think about it. I mean, there's a lot to enjoy in long road to a championship But quite a few just don't get it
Random thought- What if the Summer of 2016 turns out to be alot of hype, and just like alot of "events" in the NBA turns out to be the opposite of what it was hyped up to be... bad drafts always seem to be the best ones, slow trade deadlines always end up crazy, etc. If the NBA has taught us anything, don't sleep on Morey getting BOTH D-Mo and Jones back on relatively valuable contracts next Summer. Especially if every agent in the league tells their players to get their butts on the market early and the money dries up while D-Mo and Jones chill in RFA. I'm a realist so I know that assuming Morey keeps both Jones and D-Mo this year that there is legit risk that we have to watch one go in free agency next summer while we wait on a Durant-type signing or one gets an offer too big to match. I'm totally okay taking that risk FYI. I understand that even on one year deals, that year of production is worth more than what you are likely getting back in a trade for either player right now. But I'm certainly not ruling out the possibility that BOTH guys could be had back on relatively good contracts next Summer. Please don't buy into the narrative on here that "One guy has to go ASAP because they can't keep both in FA next Summer". There is actually a good chance that the market supply increases to the point where it becomes a buyers market. Who knows.... its way early and the market could very well go through some drastic changes over the year. Then we can keep on arguing TJ vs. D-Mo for another 4 years
well if suddendly for some reason the tv deal falls through or there is an extreme event that makes it legal (dont' even think that's possible) to have the owners force a lockout and negotiate the CBA then yes. But other than that no. It isn't some kind of insider rumour like "there will be many draft day trades" it is just pure math logic.
The math is what I'm talking about. Or the supply/demand pre calculations. We'll just have to wait and see who is truly on the market this summer and how teams truly spend, but it's too early to get a firm grasp so it could be overstated. Yeah there seems to be a high probability of overpayment of course that's why I mentioned that I'm ok with the risk. But like a lot of big transaction events in the nba, there is always possibilty for it to go the opposite direction although highly unlikely in this case. Point being I'm just not ruling out yet the possibility of keeping both guys but I'm willing to risk letting one walk to get another season out of them this year. It's a crazy idea around here I know, but it's only crazy because most folks seem to be stuck in 2012 post Yao asset collection mode.
Resigning DMo and TJones this summer would be same as drafting same position 2 years in a row in TOP 10 of the draft. It doesn't happen, unless you're poorly run organization like Kings or Hornets.
The Rockets already pay Corey Brewer 8 mil per to be the backup for two guys ahead of him in the rotation. The only big on the roster not on a rookie salary is Dwight. Are you trying to tell me that NBA teams are only allowed to play and pay two bigs a year? The Cavs just offered Tristan Thompson (a backup) how much now and he rejected it? The Rockets might not even have to offer half that for the "lesser sought after free agent". So needless to say I disagree completely with this take. Good organizations are totally ok with paying more than two big men at a time.
For those T. Jones haters. Bobby and a few others Jones has 12 points, 12 rebounds, 6 assists, and 4 steals. Pretty darn good game against Bosh, Stoudemire, Haslem, and Whiteside.
Terrence Jones and D-MO were absolute steals at #'s 18 and 21(in their respecie drafts). This is what we should be talking about.
As long as that jumpshot starts going in! His style of play gets stopped in the playoffs. Hoping for the best. Go Rockets!
Well, of course, anything is possible. But it there is such a thing as "advanced stats" on GM-ing, I would say that it's not looking good on betting on keeping them both. Keeping two expensive guys at the same position just isn't very Morey-like. The only miracle I am looking for is that somehow Morey is able to hoodwink at least one of the two guys to accept a below market value contract.
Definitely not a hater. TJones had a good game. Encouraging to see. It was however versus a recovering Bosh, washed up Amare, and Haslem ( I'm not even sure why you mentioned him.) As for Whiteside, the jury is still on on him. Like I said before, if TJ gave this kind of effort consistently, there would be no debate nor would there be threads like this. Unfortunately, we probably won't see another game like this from TJ for a few weeks.
