LA can get his jumper when he wants. Neither PP or Morris can stop it. Both are similar size, so i think the difference would have been in keeping him away from the rim, which i think Morris would have done better. PP may be stronger, but that doesn't mean much if the effort isn't there. Morris has been actively going after boards and playing defense, challenging inside shots.

That was it but the fact is they went small in the second half with Parsons playing the 4 and either Patterson or Asik playing the 5 sometimes against Aldridge who Portland also used at the 5. Really, they could have put Morris out there at some point but McHale does this often where he plays the starters too much in the 3rd when they kept losing the lead or goes small ball, in this case they ran out with Delfino at the 3.

No telling if Morris would have been able to help but the fact that none of the back up players even those that actually did pretty well tonight in the limited minutes played defensively got back in the game to rest the starters late is a failing I think it is justified to leave on McHale's door step.

I stand by the title of this thread, enough with the Marcus Morris project. He's ready for rotation minutes and isn't a project anymore.

There was a play near the end where Morris had a easy rebound to secure but it slipped out his hand and the Blazers got the ball. Patterson is the better rebounder/defender and thats why McHale brought him in.

Stop being a TJOF, Morris while not scoring as much in his previous games, still played solid. He showed hustle and tied for the second most rebounds on the team with literally half as many minutes as the others he is tied with.

tj should be better than morris in every single way. just play him 1-2 games and see what he can bring to the table. i will bet 100$ that he is better than morris

I'd rather start Morris over Parsons at this point. Parsons is utterly GARBAGE.

He may not have been good tonight, but he wasn't bad either.

You really don't think Tjones can play better?

He hasn't really had a single good game till now. I'm hoping this is just a temporary slump for him. He sometimes doesn't really look like an NBA player out there when he makes poor decisions.

With the lack of rebounding from Pat and with Morris getting lost on defensive positioning, I'm ready to take a few minutes off both and just see what kind of impact Jones ca make on the game, he could be the next Budinger or Parsons, rookies who showed they had game right away.

I think Jones has the potential to be a more well rounded player then Morris and probably a better defender with his reach. But if he was truly displaying all of that in practices, he'd be on the court. I mean Parsons wasn't some all star, he just played better defense then Budinger and had more reach then Lee last season when he took the starter's role at SF.

McHale adores defense and versatility, if Jones was really playing at a much higher level or brought things that Morris or Patterson didn't show as well, he'll eventually replace them in the rotation. So far, saying he is better then Morris in every aspect of play is false and sounds like the Lin only Fans that most berate because all they do is talk about Lin. Terrance Jones Only Fans seem to only talk about TJ and down play EVERY other player at that over stocked position and the coach for not playing a rookie.

Jones may one day be our starting PF but from what I've seen in preseason, he hasn't shown to be that much better then Patterson defensively was at his first two years or preseason.

That's why starting these kinds of threads is risky. The OP is plain wrong. After 4 games I've seen a lot of passion, hustle, and ability out of Morris. He's actually a gifted rebounder and he seems to be one of the more aggressive and tough nosed players in the rotation. He's certainly exceeded many of my expectations (granted they were pretty low). The guy has clearly earned backup minutes. Still think DMo and Jones have plenty more upside, but developing Morris will pay dividends and its early in the season. You could do a lot worse with the 14th pick in a weak draft than Marcus Morris. I'm starting to like the kid.

That said, watching Fareed tonight makes me wonder how Morey missed out on that just a few picks later in the same draft. All you height-obsessed BBSers; Fareed is an absolute beast for an "undersized" 4.

I still like Parsons alot, but he might be better as a sixth man until he regains (or obtains) his offensive confidence and shooting touch. If he can model himself after someone like Bobby Jones, 6'9" defensive stopper, great finisher, and high percentage shooter for the 76ers in the 80's (yeah, I'm dating myself), that would be great.
