The board has definitely lost some of its appeal. I used to be on here all the time looking for thoughtful discussions and insight. In my opinion, the open registrations allowed too many posters to join for free, thereby reducing the discussions to juvenile levels. I for one, enjoy DD's posts. While I certainly do not agree with DD all the time, the board is a better place with him. We should also frame this discussion, because I think there is a lot of angst among all Rocket fans. We have been sold a bill of goods for 5 years that has yet to deliver. I for one, am frustrated. Very frustrated. Every year I think this will be the year that we are healthy and peaking for a deep playoff run. In the end, it always the same. Starting with the game 7 loss at home to Yao's foot, to this year, I am ready to explode. That being said, I am a Rocket fan. I always will be. Am I ticked off? you bet. Am I angry as all get out? you bet. But I will always support my team.
Have you seen my videos? I don't always vent....but I am also not looking to get Sherlock's seal of approval on my posts either. Just look for the good ones....usually when I start a thread it is a thoughtful one to generate those types of discussions you are seeking. I do not find this thread all that appropriate either...... DD
Thanks for the thread, Sherlock. Nice to see a voice of reason and perspective. Good to remember that things could (and have) been worse.
If anything look at the panic threads as entertainment. Everyone is on edge right now because we haven't lived up to expectations. Maybe they'll bandwagon if/when we start winning, but that's what it means to be a fan to a lot of people. There's a sense of being a die-hard, you want your team dead when they lose, and they're saints when they win. A lot of posters here value the team's success over loyalty to the players, but I don't think it's fair to say that if you hate on a player consistently you're not doing any good. For example, I have hated on Rafer Alston for as long as I can remember, but recently I have given him props for playing extremely well. Another -- I was a huge fan of McGrady and was sure he'd be back 100%, but after that Toronto game, even I gave up on the guy. The problems we see on the BBS aren't the extreme reactions that people have, it's just how they present those reactions. We've lost a lot of rational thought in the heat of the moment. Spanoulis was the second coming of Steve Nash and now we have keyboard kings who know more about basketball than Rick Adelman. All of that is still really funny, though.
The forum quality goes as the Rockets go. It's just like the Rockets locker room. Team winning will lead to great posts and good vibes all around. High expectations coupled with harsh failure naturally leads to ranting and complaining.
i don't think the problem is necessarily juvenile posters, sure some of these posters might be in their teens, but i'm sure some are in their 20s and maybe even older. Sometimes they do raise some good points or topics that are worth discussing. I think the problem is the repetitiveness. One post about the missed dunk. Another about so what if he missed it, another about how the bench laughed about the missed dunk, and yet another about how the dunk means he lost his game, and so on. I know there's some people who think SLAM is a joke, but look at their boards. There's a lot of new posters, younger kids mainly, some just crazy, and it does get out of hand here and there, but for the most part you can have discussions that have a direction. That's because THEY post the topics, and therefore the posters are only replying to legit threads. So if this board regulates the repeating threads and the meaningless ones then it will have a similar effect.
if you look at the standings going into the all star break, there are only 6 teams that have won more games than us and yet were acting like this team is exploding
I mean, can't we all get along? Different fans (we are all fans), react different ways to events. That's life. When the Rockets do well, we're all happy. When they are not doing well (like now, like early last year, etc.), you'll see all sorts of reactions. That's what makes the world go around.
I want to point out when I got my bancation from the GARM, NOTHING changed, it was still the same types of discussions, I was just not there. Some people are better at sifting through the muck and mire to find the quality, others just roll their eyes, but to me, this is whining about the whiners. If you are discouraged by the quaility of the posts, start posting more quality and start ignoring the kids. I understand the thought, but if you want sunshine, go to the beach. DD
If you place a hundred monkeys in a hundred square miles of Montana you'd get pretty cool monkeys. If you place those same monkeys in a square block of NYC you'd find a few monkeys turning into idiots. I'm just saying the larger the population in a single area the more opportunity for idiots to seep through. -
DD is the T-Mac of CF.net. He is talented. He is a volume poster. He creates drama. Sometimes he is great. Sometimes he sucks. And we all hate his heat check posting. tinman is the Ron Artest here. He's a tru warier. He is a tenacious defender. He does ridiculous things. His poll selection is terrible. A lot of the good posters are Battier of this board. They are good. They are smart. They are articulate. They do a lot for the board than you give credit for. But lately, their game has disappeared in thin air. I said it elsewhere. Our problem is not lack of shooters. It's chemistry.
I think we need Moderators I really hate coming to CF and seeing 100 Tracy Mcgrady threads. I'm pretty sure only one place to say how much he sucks is the way to go. The example about his missed dunk is a good example of how one topic gets seperated into 5 threads. I check Clutchfans almost every hour at work and the amount of threads that say the same thing is ridiculous. I'm pretty sure if we want to b**** about Tracy Mcgrady you can do it in one thread. I even seeing hating on actual number analysis. No actual discussion about the numbers, just alot of hating. Its disrespectful to the Opening poster to b**** and moan off topic on a thread. Moderators would stop this from happening by making threads stay on topic, name calling would result in temp bans, and we would have a bit more order.
Well, I for one, am tired of trying to wade through a bunch of name-calling and screaming to find quality posts. It's not worth it. I think I'll stay away from the GARM for awhile.
its ok DD....I still like your opinions...you take the time to post on here..several thousand times..but it shows you care..otherwise you wouldn't spend as much time on it....I too am guilty of being really high when things are good and really low when things are bad... That is why we are called Fanatics...
no. i don't agree. at the present time, i really have no interest in watching this team. i don't live in houston and actually pay to watch all these games. at this point in the season, it was a waste to pay for league pass and i wish there was a customer satisfaction refund policy. secondly, if you're trying to build up an army to rise again dadakota, i'll be your soldier. i just can't stand people who make up their own nicknames. DOWN WITH DD!!!!!!
