HOLA MADRID!!!! nah man u is where its at in the epl though, good choice! ahhh european soccer, where i dont have to root for the mediocre hometown teams!!
I see your point. For some reason I get the feeling Arsenal is going to be plagued by injury again. It always happens. Good thing is maybe RVP will play harder trying to prove that his WC suckage was just a fluke. IIRC Arsenal has been in the hunt for the last few seasons right until the last few weeks. They're a guaranteed Champions League team though for the next few seasons, so that's a plus. I just don't see them winning the EPL though, sorry. They beat up on mediocre teams, but I don't see them past Chelsea and ManU.
Exactly- I figured, if I was going to get into this thing, I might as well root for a team that has a chance every year. I just hope I will be able to watch all of the games. When I follow a team, I like to try and watch most of the games. I never miss a Rockets game and unfortunately, I still watch the Astros.
It is more entertaining because it's made to be more entertaining. But think about this: How did England do this year? How many EPL players were in the semi-finals? It's an overhyped league. If you want to see more competitive games and more tackling and more fanfare, the EPL is great. If you want to see tactical brilliance, the Italian league is best. If you want to see beautiful football, watch the Spanish League.
You should watch some Man City as well. Former champions coming back to prominence, set to slay the traditional "Top 4" in English football (Man U, Arsenal, Chelse, and Liverpool). You can watch a club start it's life at the top, rather than watch Man United decline slowly into mediocrity due to the insurmountable amount of debt they've accumulated.
No, the EPL's hype is well deserved (and this is not to disparage other leagues. I agree with your assessments of Serie A and La Liga.) The problem is that the best players in the EPL are not English. The best clubs don't rely on developing homegrown talent -- they buy talent from everywhere else. Look at the proportion of English players on the starting 11 of teams like Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City and you'll see what I mean. Now compare that to a team like Barca which basically sends its starting unit out to play for the national flag. I do agree that EPL isn't the most beautiful brand of football, though -- it's a more physical, competitive type of league. With notable exceptions like Arsenal, of course. I generally find Serie A games more entertaining to watch actually.
LOL ... Puyol and Pique's ambush means nothing now. They're the ones that have been trying to bring him home all the time along. Barca can't afford him, they don't have the money. He swiftly took off the shirt as soon as they put it on anyway. And then there's the following quotes... and this: And then later, when all was said and done ... Yeah, Cesc isn't going anywhere for a while.
Watch some Bundesliga instead. Hard to understand the fixation with the EPL. Bundesliga and the Spanish league are at least on the same level nowadays.
I'm not a fan of Man U but not a bad plan, I'm just glad the World Cup made you a fan. There's plenty of soccer to watch I'd say just watch a wide variety of teams/leagues and see if a team catches your interest. Definitely watch the Champions League too, that will let you see the best teams from each league and it is soccer at the highest level.
Think they have a shot? I don't want to overrate Bradley but after the WC I think he should be able to go to a team slightly higher in the Premiership hierarchy than Blackpool.
you are overrating him bro. Donovan is a lot better and he was treading water in the EPL for Everton for a while.
Agreed that Donovan is better but having watched him play in the EPL I disagree that he was "treading water". I just think a good WC showing shouldn't take Bradley from a 12th place Bundesliga team to a team that will probably end up spending 1 year in the Prem. I don't want this to go off on a tangent that clutters up this thread but I'd be interested to hear what you have to say though, so e-mail me if you want. Kerfeld, Spend some time here: www.101greatgoals.com, it'll help you pass the time until August 14th.
Yeah I don't think that's overrating him ... nobody's saying he should be playing for Spur or Liverpool, but I think he's definitely worth more than a newly promoted team. I could see him signing with a club like West Ham. There were certain US players that sucked during the WC (Robbie Findley, please never put on a US jersey again in your life.) There were others that showed that they definitely belonged on a world class squad, and Michael Bradley was one of those players. And Donovan certainly didn't "tread water" at Everton -- he was outstanding, and there has been plenty of speculation that they'll pay to transfer him outright. Donovan is a very good player in his own right, MLS suckiness notwithstanding.
It's hard for me to give Donovan a ton of credit because hopefully last season was his coming out party. Before that he was mediocre and didn't stand out much. I'm glad that he's shown he can be world class and hope he can continue growing into the player he was up to the WC in the EPL. But I digress...I am partial to La Liga but EPL does have amazing goals and amazing club supporters so whatever team you watch it will be fun seeing the Brits rag on the officials and sing songs all game long.
Treading water? Everton loved Donovan while he was there, they wanted him to stay, he was playing great. Landon playing the facilitator with better finishers is a very good thing to see..... DD
